{"id":33745,"date":"2021-05-14T18:31:23","date_gmt":"2021-05-14T17:31:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=33745"},"modified":"2021-05-14T18:39:29","modified_gmt":"2021-05-14T17:39:29","slug":"nipc-boss-to-governors-lead-investment-drive-in-your-respective-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/14\/nipc-boss-to-governors-lead-investment-drive-in-your-respective-states\/","title":{"rendered":"NIPC Boss to Governors: Lead investment drive in your respective states"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The executive secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Yewande Sadiku has called on governors to spearhead investment drive in their respective states.<\/p>\n<p>This call was made by the NIPS boss, Yewande while speaking on Thursday during a programme on Arise TV.<\/p>\n<p>Yewande\u00a0explained that investments are mostly generated at state level due to the relative autonomy of states.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that encouraging investment is a \u201cgreat\u201d responsibility of the federal government, she said the nation would get more investments if all 36 governors are actively involved in the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my view, investment promotion is most effective when state governors see themselves as the chief investment promoter and the person who heads the investment promotion agency (IPA) is your first assistant,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome governors do it brilliantly. They push the envelope when it comes to attracting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/09\/rich-people-need-to-pay-for-services-to-sustain-our-health-system-says-ncdc-dg\/\">investments<\/a> to their states. The person who acts as the head of the IPA needs to have direct access to the principal. When there are issues that require resolution and knots that require being undone, it gets attention immediately and quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria will only succeed at this game if across all 36 states, all the governors gets it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sadiku listed insecurity and corruption as the major drawbacks to attracting investments into the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncreasingly, there is also policy volatility. That is, the speed and the rate at which policy changes happen and the immediacy of those changes,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is regulatory arbitrariness which they have long talked about.
