{"id":340708,"date":"2024-10-04T06:35:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T05:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=340708"},"modified":"2024-10-04T06:35:03","modified_gmt":"2024-10-04T05:35:03","slug":"insecurity-existence-of-northerners-under-threat-arewa-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/04\/insecurity-existence-of-northerners-under-threat-arewa-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Insecurity: Existence of northerners under threat \u2014 Arewa Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The forum asserted that the deepening security crisis in the beleaguered region threatens its existence and that of its people<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Northerners are at the risk of being extinct due to the perennial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/03\/poverty-weak-governance-gen-abdulsalami-reveals-roots-of-insecurity-in-sahel\/\">insecurity<\/a> that ravages the region, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has said.<\/p>\n<p>The forum asserted that the deepening security crisis in the beleaguered region threatens its existence and that of its people.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of ACF, Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Dalhatu, made the assertion on Thursday in Maiduguri.<\/p>\n<p>The ACF board chairman warned of the bleak and gloomy state of things when he led a delegation to visit and sympathise with the people of Borno State over the recent Maiduguri flood disaster.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the North was in very critical circumstance from all aspects of life with the insurgency in the North East, banditry in the North West, and other social vices and ills in the North Central.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur position is further worsened by the insurgency and banditry that even stop our people from going to farm. We have many farmers that can\u2019t access their farms and we no longer produce the food we eat; we have millions of out-of-school children, Aljamaria and begging has become very social ills and if you put all these together, you can understand we are in a very serious dire situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf nothing is done, this can expand, grow and threaten our own existence. 10 years ago, there was no single bandit in the North West for example, today most of the states in the North West have got banditry situations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are frightening of the possibility that this can grow in the next five years to come, we don\u2019t know what can happen to our existence in the Northern Nigeria until very serious, urgent, positive, and definite action that\u2019s going be directed squarely to bring these ills to an end as soon as possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the actions being taken so far in the last one decade did not stop insurgency but rather escalate the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, we realise the dangers in which all of us are. Also, we realise that the danger will be really unimaginable. So, the ACF has put together experienced and knowledgeable people to seat and look at all so that we can bring to the attention of the 19 northern governors who will then take our concern to the federal government for immediate actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose actions being taken so far in the last 15 years apparently have not been able to stop insurgency. Therefore, we need to think differently and that\u2019s what our own group experts are now doing and will soon produce their reports onward for transmission to the 19 northern state governors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can be rest assured that this time around, Insha Allah action that will be taken will be far more effective and attitude will be instilled, hopefully we will see the end of these problems,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The forum asserted that the deepening security crisis in the beleaguered region threatens its existence and that of its people.
