The Executive Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has disclosed that he has taken steps to implement the southern governors’ resolution on open grazing.<\/p>\n

Recall that on Tuesday, southern governors had met in Delta state and declared that it was important to ban open grazing<\/a><\/strong> and the movement of cattle by foot.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the governors, Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu stated that the decision was taken as part of efforts to improve security<\/a> in the region.<\/p>\n

The governors had also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be\u00a0fairer in political appointments, convene a national dialogue, embrace the calls for restructuring and establishment of state police.<\/p>\n

Ahmad Lawan, president of the senate, had faulted the governors\u2019 request for restructuring, saying they should first restructure their respective states.<\/p>\n

Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, had also called on the governors to\u00a0implement financial autonomy for the judiciary\u00a0in their states to show their seriousness about restructuring.<\/p>\n

While speaking at a reception held in his honour in Khana LGA of Rivers on Saturday, Wike said the governors\u2019 demands are irrevocable.<\/p>\n

He said their demands must be respected and that the people of the south are \u201cnot second class citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me also use this opportunity to say, all those who are saying why should Southern Governors ban grazing \u2013 I have taken further steps to fulfill what the southern governors said in Asaba. If anybody wants to die, go and die and hang yourself on electric pole,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have taken a position and we are not going back. Enough is enough; we are not second class citizens of this country. We also own this country and we must partake in what is happening in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
