{"id":341247,"date":"2024-10-08T22:53:11","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T21:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=341247"},"modified":"2024-10-08T22:53:11","modified_gmt":"2024-10-08T21:53:11","slug":"beginning-of-new-era-abure-lauds-court-ruling-affirming-him-as-lp-national-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/08\/beginning-of-new-era-abure-lauds-court-ruling-affirming-him-as-lp-national-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Beginning of new era&#8217;  \u2014 Abure lauds court ruling affirming him as LP national chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Recall that INEC had announced that it did not recognise Abure as the National Chairman of the LP.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The Commission argued that the Abure-led LP leadership was invalid.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Julius Abure has commended verdict of a federal high court in Abuja that affirmed him as national chairman of Labour Party.<\/p>\n<p>In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, Emeka Nwite, presiding judge, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/08\/breaking-court-affirms-abure-as-lp-national-chairman-orders-inec-to-recognise-him\/\"><strong>affirmed<\/strong><\/a> the Abure-led leadership and the March 2024 Nnewi convention that produced the party executives.<\/p>\n<p>Nwite ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Abure as the legitimate chair of the party.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NgLabour\/status\/1843624648044314835?t=b5PyqnvE50GA172ZyUYp6A&amp;s=19\"><strong>statement on the LP&#8217;s official X page,<\/strong><\/a> Abure applauded the court judgement, describing it as the &#8220;beginning of a new era for the party in Nigeria.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He promised to immediately begin the rebuilding of the party.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the coming days, we will focus on rebuilding our structures, reconnecting with our grassroots, and uniting our members,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will heal old wounds and emerge stronger than ever before. With the collective efforts of all members, we will continue to fight for the interests of the common man and the betterment of Nigeria.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Abure said his court victory represents a win for justice and democracy, adding that the well-articulated judgement has restored faith in Nigeria&#8217;s judiciary and rekindled hope for democracy&#8217;s survival.<\/p>\n<p>The factional chair added that he had forgiven his adversaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI offer my forgiveness to those who attempted to undermine our party, engaged in character assassination and blackmail especially of my person,&#8221; Abure said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.\u201d Forgiveness must be accompanied by repentance and restitution.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recall that INEC had announced that it did not recognise Abure as the National Chairman of the LP.
