{"id":341717,"date":"2024-10-12T13:07:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-12T12:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=341717"},"modified":"2024-10-12T13:07:00","modified_gmt":"2024-10-12T12:07:00","slug":"fg-begins-construction-of-gateway-inland-dry-port-in-ogun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/12\/fg-begins-construction-of-gateway-inland-dry-port-in-ogun\/","title":{"rendered":"FG begins construction of Gateway Inland Dry Port in Ogun"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Says port would be a model for other inland dry ports in the country<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, on Friday performed the ceremonial ground-breaking of the Gateway Inland Dry Port in Ogun.<\/p>\n<p>The event was held at Kajola, in Itori in the state\u2019s Ewekoro local government area (LGA).<\/p>\n<p>In his address, Oyetola said the port would be a model for other inland dry ports in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister said the port would be built to international standards, equipped with the latest digital systems for tracking, clearance and cargo movement to ensure efficiency and global competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is about laying the foundation for a key logistics hub that would facilitate the movement of goods across Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Oyetola added that it would create over 5,000 direct jobs, 15,000 indirect jobs and stimulate local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, it will attract investments that will spur regional development, benefiting Ogun and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo doubt, this project aligns seamlessly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, as we are committed to creating an enabling environment that fosters innovation and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis initiative will undoubtedly help Ogun to become a more attractive destination for businesses and investors, reinforcing our collective aspiration for a prosperous Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInland dry ports provide faster and more efficient alternatives for moving goods, ultimately benefiting our economy and reducing the burden on our coastal seaports,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Oyetola expressed the hope that the dry port would enhance the efficiency of the logistics network and contribute to the decongestion of Apapa and Tin Can Ports.<\/p>\n<p>He added that this should thus improve Nigeria\u2019s trade competitiveness on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister directed the Nigerian Shippers\u2019 Council to ensure that the port was developed as a state-of-the-art facility.<\/p>\n<p>He said this should be by integrating advanced technology and leveraging information and communication technology (ICT) that supports modern port processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis inland dry port is expected to enhance the efficiency of our logistics network, reduce green house gas emissions associated with road transportation and promote environmentally -sustainable practices,\u201d Oyetola said.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun said the port would help in opening up and engendering more development in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that this would be by serving as a transport and logistics hub for the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Abiodun noted that the ground-breaking event was not merely the foundation of a dry port, but the beginning of a new era of economic growth, job-creation and increased prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the project was a testament to the shared vision of prosperity and industrialisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will transform the state into a leading logistics and commercial centre, both in Nigeria and across West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving identified the ideal location convenient for our Gateway Dry Port Inland Container Terminal, this facility is a key enabler of industrial activity and manufacturing in Ogun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will, on completion, increase the ranking of our state on the ease-of-doing-business index,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of Ogun\u2019s Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, appealed to the Federal Government for the reconstruction of the Sagamu interchange-Papalanto-Ilaro road.<\/p>\n<p>Olugbenle noted that the construction of the road would compliment and enhance the full benefits of the port project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Says port would be a model for other inland dry ports in the country The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, on Friday performed the ceremonial ground-breaking of the Gateway Inland Dry Port in Ogun.
