{"id":341900,"date":"2024-10-13T18:43:18","date_gmt":"2024-10-13T17:43:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=341900"},"modified":"2024-10-13T18:43:18","modified_gmt":"2024-10-13T17:43:18","slug":"air-peace-reacts-to-money-laundering-charge-against-ceo-onyema-in-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/13\/air-peace-reacts-to-money-laundering-charge-against-ceo-onyema-in-u-s\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Peace reacts to money laundering charge against CEO Onyema in U.S"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The airline said Onyema and Eghagha will be exonerated of the charges<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>It described the claims against Onyema and Eghagha as \u201cmere allegations<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Air Peace says Allen Onyema, its chief executive officer (CEO) will be cleared of the money laundering charges he is facing in the United State.<\/p>\n<p>The US attorney\u2019s office, Northern District of Georgia, in its fresh charges alleged that Onyema and Ejiroghene Eghagha, Air Peace chief of administration and finance allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/13\/money-laundering-justice-obstruction-fake-docs-us-govt-files-fresh-charges-against-air-peace-ceo-onyema\/\">obstructed justice by submitting false document<\/a>s to end a federal investigation against them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter allegedly using his airline company as a cover to commit fraud on the United States\u2019 banking system, Onyema, along with his co-defendant, allegedly committed additional crimes of fraud in a failed attempt to derail the government\u2019s investigation of his conduct,\u201d Ryan Buchanan of the US attorney\u2019s office had said.<\/p>\n<p>Onyema and Eghagha have been under investigation for alleged money laundering since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>While the Air Peace CEO is accused of moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through US bank accounts in a scheme involving \u201cfalse documents\u201d to purchase airplanes, Eghagha is said to have committed aggravated identity theft in connection with the plot.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Sunday, the airline said Onyema and Eghagha will be exonerated of the charges.<\/p>\n<p>It described the claims against Onyema and Eghagha as \u201cmere allegations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur legal team is fully engaged with the matter and is working tirelessly to ensure that justice prevails,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain confident that, through due process, the truth will be revealed, and our CEO and co-defendant will be exonerated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to note that Dr. Onyema and his legal team have consistently cooperated with authorities throughout this process, and Air Peace continues to operate without disruption, upholding our commitment to delivering top-notch services to our valued customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The airline said the legal proceedings would not have any impact on its day-to-day operations<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The airline said Onyema and Eghagha will be exonerated of the charges It described the claims against Onyema and Eghagha as \u201cmere allegations\u201d Air Peace says Allen Onyema, its chief executive officer (CEO) will be cleared of the money laundering charges he is facing in the United State.
