{"id":342043,"date":"2024-10-14T17:42:41","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T16:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=342043"},"modified":"2024-10-14T17:42:41","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T16:42:41","slug":"nafdac-dg-denies-role-in-promotion-delays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/14\/nafdac-dg-denies-role-in-promotion-delays\/","title":{"rendered":"NAFDAC DG denies role in promotion delays"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Says reason behind strike untrue<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, has declared that the agency is not in charge of the number of staff to be promoted in the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Adeyeye disclosed this while reacting to the ongoing indefinite strike embarked on by the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress representing employees of NAFDAC due to unresolved promotion controversies and welfare concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The aggrieved workers expressed that their grievances had not been addressed, prompting this drastic action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision is a result of NAFDAC Management\u2019s failure to address the critical issues outlined in the communiqu\u00e9 within the given time frame,\u201d stated Dr Ejor Michael, Secretary of the TUC, in a statement accompanying the strike announcement.<\/p>\n<p>According to the communiqu\u00e9 SSASCGOC\/NAFDAC\/COMMUNIQUE\/VOL.1, issued on October 4, 2024, the workers outlined several key issues that remain unresolved.<\/p>\n<p>These include a review of the 2024 promotion examination results, the appointment of Directors for Public Affairs and Special Duties, training institute placements for North West and North East extractions, reform of promotion examination content, qualification and conversion criteria for promotion examinations, payment of pending burial expenses, life insurance, and repatriation allowances, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Adeyeye in a statement signed by the agency\u2019s Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola noted that the reasons advanced by the striking workers against the agency are not true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it is a matter of promotion or estacode, the agency has been following the rules and is committed to promoting the workers\u2019 welfare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not in charge of the number of people to promote, we are only responsible for conducting exams. The office of the Head of Service of the Federation is always responsible for allocating available vacancies that the government can pay for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not that there is a vacancy and we are not promoting. It is what the government can pay for that they approve as vacancy every year. It is not different from any other agency,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of estacode, the NAFDAC boss said there is nothing wrong with the agency\u2019s estacode policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is just playing to the gallery. Our staff have always been paid their due estacode and so, that is not an issue.<\/p>\n<p>We are not different from any other agency, the estacode will be paid when the evidence of the trip is presented.
