{"id":342824,"date":"2024-10-22T07:25:35","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T06:25:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=342824"},"modified":"2024-10-22T07:25:35","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T06:25:35","slug":"why-i-usurped-julius-berger-land-for-construction-of-judges-houses-wike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/22\/why-i-usurped-julius-berger-land-for-construction-of-judges-houses-wike\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I usurped Julius Berger land for construction of judges&#8217; houses \u2013 Wike"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Wike had disclosed that he revoked the certificate of occupancy (C of O) of some plots of land allocated to Julius Berger in the Katampe District of Abuja<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/19\/pdp-crisis-i-wont-descend-into-gutters-with-wike-he-revels-in-mud-atiku\/\">Nyesom Wike<\/a>, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has opened up on how he dispossessed renowned construction company, Julius Berger, of its land.<\/p>\n<p>Wike had disclosed that he revoked the certificate of occupancy (C of O) of some plots of land allocated to Julius Berger in the Katampe District of Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Wike made the disclosure at the official Flag-Off Ceremony of the Design and Construction of 40 Judges\u2019 Quarters at the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and the President of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem wete in attendance at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The former Rivers State Governor said that he revoked the land because it was abandoned and not developed.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the revocation was done even after having a dinner with the managing director of Julius Berger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Lord, let me bring to your notice. You have seen this land here. When we were looking for where to get land to build. I was driving around looking for empty land and I got here and saw this empty land,\u201d he began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw the big post: \u2018Julius Berger\u2019. I didn\u2019t talk. I called the director of lands (and asked him): who owns that land? And he said: Julius Berger. When was it allocated? He said about 15, 20 years ago. 15, 20 years ago? Nothing has been done? I didn\u2019t bother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I invited the MD (Managing Director of) Julius Berger. He came and we had dinner. I didn\u2019t talk about the land. The next day, he was in the office and he saw the revocation letter as a matter of public interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe called me and said but I had dinner with you. I said yes; we had dinner but we didn\u2019t discuss the land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow will the government allocate land for more than 20 years for organisations to develop and they did not develop it?
