{"id":342950,"date":"2024-10-23T06:59:40","date_gmt":"2024-10-23T05:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=342950"},"modified":"2024-10-23T06:59:40","modified_gmt":"2024-10-23T05:59:40","slug":"choose-between-petrol-at-n1000-litre-or-cng-for-n200-tinubu-tells-nigerians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/23\/choose-between-petrol-at-n1000-litre-or-cng-for-n200-tinubu-tells-nigerians\/","title":{"rendered":"Choose between petrol at N1,000\/litre or CNG for N200, Tinubu tells Nigerians"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Tinubu also underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in driving Nigeria\u2019s energy transition<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that Nigerian motorists now have the option of paying N1,000 per litre for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, or purchasing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200 per Standard Cubic Meter.<\/p>\n<p>The president made the remarks at a meeting with executives from the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), led by director Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, at State House in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued by the President&#8217;s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu underlined his administration&#8217;s campaign for cleaner, more affordable fuel options for Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria\u2019s motorists can buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or equivalent gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200,\u201d Tinubu stated. \u201cWe have also introduced incentives for commercial motorists to convert from petrol to gas, free of cost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Continuing, he said; \u201cThis move is part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), which is aimed at reducing the country\u2019s reliance on petrol while promoting the use of CNG as an alternative fuel source. Tinubu praised NIPCO\u2019s role in supporting the initiative, noting that the company\u2019s investments align with his administration\u2019s energy diversification strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNIPCO\u2019s efforts in promoting and supporting the \u2018Switch to CNG\u2019 campaign have been instrumental in boosting public awareness and providing affordable CNG conversion kits,\u201d the president said. \u201cThis partnership helps us reduce fuel costs for consumers and our carbon footprint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu also underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in driving Nigeria\u2019s energy transition and reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to creating a conducive environment for private-sector investments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur administration is focused on expanding Nigeria\u2019s CNG infrastructure to enhance energy efficiency and stimulate economic growth,\u201d Tinubu remarked, highlighting the long-term benefits of cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.<\/p>\n<p>The President further encouraged NIPCO to continue its innovative approach to CNG expansion while supporting the government\u2019s broader goals in the energy sector.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Mr Ramesh Kasangra expressed his gratitude for the government\u2019s steadfast support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/15\/fg-sets-to-roll-out-guidelines-for-cng-vehicle-conversion\/\">CNG sector<\/a>.
