{"id":343655,"date":"2024-10-29T07:09:05","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T06:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=343655"},"modified":"2024-10-29T07:09:05","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T06:09:05","slug":"alleged-corruption-arewa-group-kicks-against-appointment-of-dikko-as-nsc-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/29\/alleged-corruption-arewa-group-kicks-against-appointment-of-dikko-as-nsc-chairman\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged corruption: Arewa group kicks against appointment of Dikko as NSC Chairman"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Mr. Dikko&#8217;s former position as chairman of the league management company (LMC) was riddled with allegations of financial mismanagement and unethical behaviour<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Arewa Youth Movement has expressed concern about the appointment of Mr. Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission, describing it as a grave injustice to Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement signed by the group&#8217;s National President, Ambassador Muhammed Saad Aboki, Mr. Dikko&#8217;s former position as chairman of the league management company (LMC) was riddled with allegations of financial mismanagement and unethical behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>According to the group, these allegations, which have been widely reported and discussed in the media, call into question his suitability for a position of such high responsibility and public trust.<\/p>\n<p>The group however called for immediate investigation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/17\/ahmed-musa-to-play-for-free-at-kano-pillars-says-shehu-dikko\/\">Mr. Dikko<\/a> and to be suspended from his new position as Chairman of National Sports Commission pending the outcome of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe the Arewa youth movement, are committed to upholding the principles of good governance, transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>We believe that the appointment of Mr. Dikko to position of Chairman of the National Sports commission undermine these principles and set a dangerous precedence for the future of Nigeria sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the ICPC, EFCC fail to act swiftly and decisively on this matters; we will be forced to take action to ensure that justice is served.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Arewa youth movement will mobilize its members across the Northern Region and Initiate Peaceful Protest Starting From 1st November, 2024 to demand his removal in the sort sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe integrity and future of Nigerian sport depend on the appointment of individual with a proven track record and honesty and ethical conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the commission to take swift action to ensure that Mr. Dikko is held accountable for alleged action to prevent further damage to the reputation and integrity of National Sports Commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that this is the matter of urgent National concern, the Nigerian especially the youth deserve to have a sport sector that is free from corruption and led by individual who are committed to promoting fairness, transparency and excellence\u201d, the statement noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. Dikko&#8217;s former position as chairman of the league management company (LMC) was riddled with allegations of financial mismanagement and unethical behaviour The Arewa Youth Movement has expressed concern about the appointment of Mr. Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission, describing it as a grave injustice to Nigerians.
