{"id":343858,"date":"2024-10-30T23:05:42","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T22:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=343858"},"modified":"2024-10-30T23:05:42","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T22:05:42","slug":"umahi-defends-four-tollgates-on-abuja-keffi-makurdi-expressway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/30\/umahi-defends-four-tollgates-on-abuja-keffi-makurdi-expressway\/","title":{"rendered":"Umahi defends four tollgates on Abuja-Keffi-Makurdi expressway"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Recall that the minister had inaugurated the committee on the implementation of cashless tolling system on the road.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>David Umahi, minister of works, says the installation of four tollgates on Abuja-Keffi-Makurdi expressway aligns with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/13\/icrc-nigeria-to-begin-production-of-military-paramilitary-uniforms-january-2023\/\">Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC)<\/a> <\/strong>guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>NAN reports Umahi addressed concerns from commuters about multiple tolls on the newly completed expressway, responding to queries on the issue&#8217;s growing criticism.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said that ICRC&#8217;s founding legislation outlines required tolling parameters, including minimum and maximum rates, for privately managed roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe total length of that road is 260 kilometres, and it is dualised, which means you are talking about 520 kilometers, and I don\u2019t think that we have more than four toll gates on that road,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a law establishing infrastructure concession regulatory commission, and they have the minimum requirements and maximum requirements for tolling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have followed that law and we have also set up a committee, because we are doing a cashless collection on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe committee members are meeting with us next week, and they will tell us how to go about that, because, there are a lot of people who do not know how to read and write, when it comes to ICT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may be difficult for them to understand what we are talking, in terms of the electronics payment of tolls.
