{"id":344196,"date":"2024-11-03T09:21:01","date_gmt":"2024-11-03T08:21:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=344196"},"modified":"2024-11-03T09:21:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-03T08:21:01","slug":"kogi-man-kills-self-after-fire-destroyed-business-he-took-loan-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/03\/kogi-man-kills-self-after-fire-destroyed-business-he-took-loan-for\/","title":{"rendered":"Kogi man kills self after fire destroyed business he took loan for"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Many of the victims, according to a source, are in a precarious financial situation and are down with one health challenge or the other<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/21\/kogi-gov-swears-in-new-lg-chairmen\/\">Kogi State<\/a>, one Friday Ajeka has taken his own life after losing his source of livelihood to a fire outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Ajeka was one of the traders affected by the devastating inferno that ravaged the popularly GSM village in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, two months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed following the fire outbreak at the GSM village around Kpata market in Lokoja on September 12, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased, 32-year-old indigene of Ofu Local Government Area who lost all his goods in the tragic incident, was said to have committed suicide by hanging on 26th October, 2024, owing to a loan he collected from a bank.<\/p>\n<p>Those affected by the fire outbreak had waited patiently hoping that the State Government would support them in rebuilding the GSM village, but to no avail.<\/p>\n<p>As of the time of filing this report, many of the victims, according to a source, are in a precarious financial situation and down with one health challenge or the other.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the operators of the Lokoja GSM Village, have once again made an appeal to Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo to help them out.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Ododo in September gave the assurance to help support the victims when he visited the scene of the fire incident to assess the level of damage caused by the fire outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor described the extent of the damage as a worrisome development, promising to ensure that owners of businesses and other victims of the fire outbreak were supported to bounce back.<\/p>\n<p>The GSM village provided sources of living for several youths and women in the state.<\/p>\n<p>One of the operators, Murtala Mohammed, appealed to Governor Ododo to quickly come to their aid.<\/p>\n<p>He said many of them have fallen sick owing to the loss of their means of livelihood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dSome of us have families with wives and children. As we speak, we are losing our dignity, as we can no longer fend for our family as breadwinners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are therefore using this medium to call on Gov.
