{"id":344948,"date":"2024-11-10T07:49:10","date_gmt":"2024-11-10T06:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=344948"},"modified":"2024-11-10T07:49:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-10T06:49:10","slug":"nigerians-abroad-remit-over-20-billion-annually-nidoe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/10\/nigerians-abroad-remit-over-20-billion-annually-nidoe\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerians Abroad Remit Over $20 Billion Annually \u2013 NIDOE"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"marker:text-textOff list-disc pl-8\">\n<li><strong>The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe reports that Nigerians abroad contribute over $20 billion annually through remittances, supporting national development<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>NIDOE has spent over N25 million on humanitarian projects in 2024, focusing on health, education, and clean water access<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDOE) reports that Nigerians abroad contribute over $20 billion to Nigeria annually through remittances.<\/p>\n<p>The organization has also spent more than N25 million on humanitarian projects across Nigeria in 2024, according to its Chairman, Bashir Obasekola, who spoke during a virtual news conference held alongside the NIDOE Annual General Meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Obasekola highlighted that beyond remittances, Nigerians in the diaspora actively promote trade, attract <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/29\/report-of-1-5-million-nigerians-in-need-of-passport-in-italy-false-%e2%80%95-nunai\/\">foreign direct investment<\/a>, foster entrepreneurship, and transfer valuable skills and knowledge back to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>NIDOE\u2019s contributions to Nigeria&#8217;s health and education sectors are intended to support underserved communities, promote societal change, and advance national development.<\/p>\n<p>Notable projects include the construction of boreholes to improve clean water access in multiple Nigerian states. &#8220;Access to water, sanitation, and hygiene is critical, especially in remote areas where unsafe water poses significant health risks,&#8221; Obasekola explained.<\/p>\n<p>The organization has also addressed rising cardiovascular health issues in Nigeria by distributing blood pressure monitors to health facilities and individuals. This intervention aims to detect health risks, including sudden deaths caused by cardiovascular conditions, early.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, NIDOE donated assistive learning devices to the Pacelli School of the Blind in Lagos and funded WAEC examination fees for Senior Secondary School students. Obasekola emphasized NIDOE\u2019s commitment to inclusive education and removing financial barriers for students striving for academic success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs socially responsible citizens, we recognize that the government alone cannot address all needs, so we\u2019re committed to supporting national development beyond remittances,\u201d he stated. NIDOE aims to expand further its humanitarian efforts to benefit more needy Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>Obasekola added that NIDOE is dedicated to creating opportunities for Nigerian businesses and promoting
