{"id":346632,"date":"2024-11-23T08:01:41","date_gmt":"2024-11-23T07:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=346632"},"modified":"2024-11-23T08:01:41","modified_gmt":"2024-11-23T07:01:41","slug":"after-3-years-of-courtship-bauchi-couple-cancels-wedding-7-days-to-ceremony-over-genotype-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/23\/after-3-years-of-courtship-bauchi-couple-cancels-wedding-7-days-to-ceremony-over-genotype-results\/","title":{"rendered":"After 3 years of courtship, Bauchi couple cancels wedding 7 days to ceremony over genotype results"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He explained that both he and his fianc\u00e9e were AS genotype carriers, which increases the risk of having children with sickle cell disease<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/12\/apc-senator-blames-governor-bala-mohammed-for-hardship-in-bauchi-state\/\">Bauchi State<\/a>, the hope of a couple getting married has been dashed by genotype results causing them to cancel their wedding scheduled to hold later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The couple, Muhammad Ibrahim and his fianc\u00e9e, Fatima Abdulqadir,\u00a0 put an end to their plans to spend the rest of their lives together after medical tests showed that they are not genetically compatible.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post shared on November 21, 2024, Ibrahim announced the decision to call off the wedding, which was slated for November 29, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that both he and his fianc\u00e9e were AS genotype carriers, which increases the risk of having children with sickle cell disease.<\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim, a Zoology graduate from Bauchi State University, disclosed that they discovered this only last month after undergoing tests at two separate hospitals to confirm the results.<\/p>\n<p>The couple were said to have been in a three-year relationship but had not prioritised genotype testing, assuming there would be no issues.<\/p>\n<p>In the Facebook post, Ibrahim wrote, \u201cDear friends and family, it\u2019s with an incredibly heavy heart that I regretfully announce the cancellation of my upcoming wedding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to unforeseen genetic compatibility issues, my partner and I have made the difficult decision to go our separate ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He described the news as a \u201cdevastating shock\u201d, adding that their inability to proceed with the wedding had left him heartbroken.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Punch, Ibrahim said some family members encouraged him and his fianc\u00e9e to proceed with their plans, but they refused.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the decision was made out of concern for potential health risks associated with having children who might inherit the sickle cell gene.<\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim concluded his post by asking for prayers and understanding during what he described as a \u201cdark hour.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He explained that both he and his fianc\u00e9e were AS genotype carriers, which increases the risk of having children with sickle cell disease In Bauchi State, the hope of a couple getting married has been dashed by genotype results causing them to cancel their wedding scheduled to hold later this month.
