{"id":346644,"date":"2024-11-23T08:54:03","date_gmt":"2024-11-23T07:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=346644"},"modified":"2024-11-24T17:11:12","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T16:11:12","slug":"i-expected-to-write-your-biography-not-epitaph-aide-de-camp-mours-taoreed-lagbaja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/23\/i-expected-to-write-your-biography-not-epitaph-aide-de-camp-mours-taoreed-lagbaja\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;I expected to write your biography, not obituary&#8217; \u2014 aide-de-camp mourns Taoreed Lagbaja"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Lagbaja died after battling an undisclosed ailment. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He was 56 years of age.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>GU Bukar, aide-de-camp (ADC) to the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Taoreed Lagbaja, has penned a moving tribute commiserating Lagbaja&#8217;s outstanding leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Lagbaja&#8217;s tenure as COAS, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023, was cut short by an undisclosed illness.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of his exceptional service, President Tinubu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/15\/tinubu-honours-late-lagbaja\/\"><strong>conferred<\/strong><\/a> the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on the late 56-year-old army chief.<\/p>\n<p>The ADC reflected on Lagbaja&#8217;s enduring legacy, initially intending to write a biography rather than a eulogy, while grappling with shock and sadness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sir, I do not know where to start from, because all my thoughts are that I would in the future be writing your biography, and not epitaph,&#8221; Bukar said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I first met you 10 years ago, on 1st of December 2014, as my Commanding Officer in 72 Special Forces Battalion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was then that you instilled in me the warrior ethos and leadership spirit that prepared me for my role in the NE operation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel fortunate to have worked closely with you from 2019, benefiting from your exceptional leadership, compassion, and humility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bukar credited Lagbaja with teaching him valuable life lessons, including attention to detail and courtesy, such as showing appreciation to hotel staff.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From you, I learned a lot, I must say. From seemingly trivial things which many might ignore, like making your bed before checking out of a hotel room, ensuring you tip the housekeeper before leaving, and many more,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You consistently thanked your driver for safe transportation and demonstrated unparalleled generosity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You also taught me that effective leaders prioritize their subordinates&#8217; needs. For instance, you ensured I attended courses when due, demonstrating your commitment to my growth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You never denied or reduced applications for pass or leave, instead saying &#8216;Go for your pass, the work will be done.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu has appointed Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive COAS and is now seeking senate approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lagbaja died after battling an undisclosed ailment.
