{"id":347062,"date":"2024-11-26T16:16:08","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T15:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=347062"},"modified":"2024-11-26T16:16:08","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T15:16:08","slug":"n80-2bn-fraud-efcc-detains-yahaya-bello","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/26\/n80-2bn-fraud-efcc-detains-yahaya-bello\/","title":{"rendered":"N80.2bn fraud: EFCC detains Yahaya Bello"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>EFCC had on April 18, 2024, declared Bello wanted in connection with an N80.2 billion money laundering charge<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Ex-Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged N80.2 billion fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Bello was detained after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/26\/breaking-again-yahaya-bello-presents-self-to-efcc\/\">turned himself in<\/a> to the anti-graft agency at its headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday after months of evading arrest and ignoring court subpoena.<\/p>\n<p>The former governor\u2019s detention was disclosed by EFCC\u2019s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing journalists, Oyewale said Bello was arrested by the Commission\u2019s chief security officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him,\u201d Oyewale said.<\/p>\n<p>Bello went to the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday morning with his lawyers to answer questions on allegations of misappropriation of funds levelled against him, after months of shunning repeated invitations.<\/p>\n<p>He went to the EFCC office with his lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>But his successor, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, who followed him to the EFCC office few weeks ago, was not in the entourage.<\/p>\n<p>EFCC had on April 18, 2024, declared Bello wanted in connection with an N80.2 billion money laundering charge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EFCC had on April 18, 2024, declared Bello wanted in connection with an N80.2 billion money laundering charge Ex-Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged N80.2 billion fraud.
