{"id":347276,"date":"2024-11-28T08:25:50","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T07:25:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=347276"},"modified":"2024-11-28T08:25:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T07:25:50","slug":"again-efcc-to-arraign-yahaya-bello-on-fresh-charges-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/28\/again-efcc-to-arraign-yahaya-bello-on-fresh-charges-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Again, EFCC to arraign Yahaya Bello on fresh charges today"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Although the arraignment was scheduled for January 27 next year, the commission was said to have pushed for expediting the arraignment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Former governor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/11\/25\/kogi-governor-convenes-emergency-security-meeting-amid-tensions\/\">Kogi State<\/a>, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello will be docked again today at the federal high court in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n<p>The commission will arraign the former governor on 19-count charges of alleged money laundering barring any unforeseen circumstance.<\/p>\n<p>He is to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite where his plea will be taken, according to Daily Post.<\/p>\n<p>Although the arraignment was scheduled for January 27 next year, the commission was said to have decided to expedite the arraignment following the presence of the former governor before the anti-graft agency.<\/p>\n<p>It is gathered that the hearing notice for the arraignment had already been served on the legal team of the former governor and that of the EFCC to ensure a hitch-free arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the second time the EFCC will be putting Bello on trial having docked him on Wednesday, November 27 before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on alleged breach of trust.<\/p>\n<p>He denied the 16-count charges brought against him and requested for bail to enable him prepare for his defense in the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Maryann Anenih, who presided over the arraignment, however, fixed December 10 for ruling on the bail application.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge ordered that the former governor and two others arraigned along with him be remanded in the EFCC custody till the ruling is delivered<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although the arraignment was scheduled for January 27 next year, the commission was said to have pushed for expediting the arraignment Former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello will be docked again today at the federal high court in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
