{"id":348687,"date":"2024-12-09T22:12:21","date_gmt":"2024-12-09T21:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=348687"},"modified":"2024-12-09T22:12:21","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T21:12:21","slug":"mama-boko-haram-sentenced-to-five-years-in-prison-for-alleged-n6m-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/09\/mama-boko-haram-sentenced-to-five-years-in-prison-for-alleged-n6m-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Mama Boko Haram&#8217; sentenced to five years in prison for alleged N6m fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>In June 2022, a high court in Borno state sentenced Mama Boko Haram to five years imprisonment over her involvement in N71.4 million fraud.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>In August 2022, the high court sentenced her to seven years imprisonment for N66 million fraud, while in September of the same year, she was sentenced to seven years imprisonment over another N15 million fraud.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Aisha Wakil, commonly referred to as Mama Boko Haram, has been handed a five-year prison sentence by the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri for fraudulent activities.<\/p>\n<p>Aisha Wakil was sentenced alongside two officials from her non-governmental organization, Complete Care and Aid Foundation: Tahiru Daura, Programme Manager, and Prince Shoyode, Country Director.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, who prosecuted the case, revealed that Judge Aisha Kumaliya delivered the verdict on November 28.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants were accused of scamming Bukar Kachalla, owner of Abks Ventures, by deceiving him into giving up a Toyota Camry 2012 model worth \u20a66 million, which they never paid for or returned.<\/p>\n<p>Aisha Wakil and her co-defendants initially pleaded not guilty to four amended charges, including conspiracy, cheating, and providing false information, when they were first arraigned on September 1, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>During the trial, the EFCC presented three witnesses and submitted various documents as evidence to substantiate their claims.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Kumaliya found all three defendants guilty and sentenced them to five years in prison each, with no option for a fine.<\/p>\n<p>The court also ordered the defendants to jointly refund \u20a63.5 million to the petitioner, with failure to comply resulting in an additional five-year jail term.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In June 2022, a high court in Borno state sentenced Mama Boko Haram to five years imprisonment over her involvement in N71.4 million fraud.
