{"id":348900,"date":"2024-12-11T20:44:03","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T19:44:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=348900"},"modified":"2024-12-11T20:44:03","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T19:44:03","slug":"afe-babalola-farotimis-book-banned-as-court-orders-police-dss-to-seize-copies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/11\/afe-babalola-farotimis-book-banned-as-court-orders-police-dss-to-seize-copies\/","title":{"rendered":"Afe Babalola: Farotimi\u2019s book banned as court orders Police, DSS to seize copies"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The banning of the book from public consumption was consequent upon an ex-parte application filed by the claimant, the managing partner at Afe Babalola\u2019s law firm, Kehinde Ogunwumiju<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The litigious book of human rights activist and lawyer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/10\/dele-farotimi-peter-obi-visits-afe-babalola\/\">Dele Farotimi<\/a>, \u2018Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System\u2019, has been banned.<\/p>\n<p>The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, order the discontinuation of the sale of the controversial book on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The court also barred further publishing, selling, circulating, advertising or distributing the hard or soft copies of the book.<\/p>\n<p>The banning of the book from public consumption was consequent upon an ex-parte application filed by the claimant, the managing partner at Afe Babalola\u2019s law firm, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Peter Kekemeke granted the order after listening to the ex-parte application.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Kekemeke also temporarily barred the agents, publishers, distributors, sellers, re-publishers, re-sellers, or any other person from further publishing, selling, circulating, advertising, or distributing the physical\/hard\/digital\/soft copies of the book online, electronically, physically or by any other means, including the social media.<\/p>\n<p>The order was granted pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction dated and filed on the 6th day of December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The judge also granted an order of interim injunction directing the seizure of all physical copies of the book, wherever they may be found by the Nigerian Police Force, State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and all other security agencies, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.<\/p>\n<p>The court further ordered that the relevant security agencies should file an affidavit demonstrating that they have complied with the orders within 72 hours of their receipt of the ruling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The banning of the book from public consumption was consequent upon an ex-parte application filed by the claimant, the managing partner at Afe Babalola\u2019s law firm, Kehinde Ogunwumiju The litigious book of human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, \u2018Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System\u2019, has been banned.
