{"id":349272,"date":"2024-12-15T08:18:29","date_gmt":"2024-12-15T07:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=349272"},"modified":"2024-12-15T08:18:29","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T07:18:29","slug":"igbos-hated-for-their-nationalism-most-marginalized-in-nigeria-abaribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/15\/igbos-hated-for-their-nationalism-most-marginalized-in-nigeria-abaribe\/","title":{"rendered":"Igbos hated for their nationalism, most marginalized in Nigeria \u2013 Abaribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He highlighted ndigbo&#8217;s spirit of nationalism and progressivism, saying these dispositions have made many people resentful of them<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Senator representing Abia South senatorial district in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/14\/gov-otti-reveals-why-abia-civil-servants-failed-promotion-examinations\/\">Abia State<\/a>, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has bemoaned the unfair and unjust treatment of Igbo in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted that that Igbos are the most disenfranchised and marginalized people in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The Senator made the assertion in Abuja on Saturday during a public presentation of a book: \u201cThe power of Nothing: Triumph And Trump Of People\u2019s Voice In Enugu\u201d, written by Ikem Okuhu.<\/p>\n<p>Abaribe lamented that there is a structural imbalance within the nation\u2019s political landscape, stressing that allocation of only five states to the South east is unfair.<\/p>\n<p>Abaribe was represented at the occasion by Hon Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, member representing Aba North\/South Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted ndigbo&#8217;s spirit of nationalism and progressivism, saying these dispositions have made many people resentful of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to say a few things about the Igbos. We Igbos believe in progressivism, and the concept of patriotism and nationalism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd this is why you will see an Igbo man pack up his bag and leave his village to Bauchi to set up shops, buy a piece of land, build a house, and become an employer of labour. That in itself, for me, is nationalism, patriotism and progressivism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why the Igbo man has that enthusiasm in him to develop, to be progressive, and to remain optimistic. That\u2019s why I said that optimism is a virtue every Nigerian and politician must embrace so that Nigeria will always be better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people might not like what I want to say, the Igbos, we are the most disenfranchised and marginalized. But all we try to do and encourage our brothers is to support one another because it\u2019s highly needed,\u201d the Senator said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the book by Okuhu, which chronicled the events leading to and after the 2023 gubernatorial election in Enugu State, Abaribe said it will help legislators to come up with laws that help to perfect the nation\u2019s electoral system.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it\u2019s only when the nation identifies its problem and the conundrum of the political system that it can then begin to identify the clinical solutions of how those problems can be tackled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He highlighted ndigbo&#8217;s spirit of nationalism and progressivism, saying these dispositions have made many people resentful of them The Senator representing Abia South senatorial district in Abia State, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has bemoaned the unfair and unjust treatment of Igbo in Nigeria.
