{"id":350275,"date":"2024-12-24T13:36:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-24T12:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=350275"},"modified":"2024-12-24T13:36:31","modified_gmt":"2024-12-24T12:36:31","slug":"fuel-price-hike-how-my-friend-abandoned-his-5-rolls-royce-for-honda-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/24\/fuel-price-hike-how-my-friend-abandoned-his-5-rolls-royce-for-honda-tinubu\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuel price hike: How My friend abandoned his 5 Rolls Royce for Honda \u2013 Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He narrated how the hike in the price of fuel, which is engendered by the removal of fuel subsidy, affected one of his friends<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/24\/energy-cost-nigerians-must-manage-switch-off-their-lights-tinubu\/\">Bola Tinubu<\/a> has recounted how his policies have forced many affluent and well-to-do Nigerians to revaluate their choices and make pragmatic decisions.<\/p>\n<p>He narrated how the hike in the price of fuel, which is engendered by the removal of fuel subsidy, affected one of his friends.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu disclosed that his friend who owned five Rolls Royce switched to driving Honda Accord due to the high cost of fuelling the high-end luxury vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>He made this known during his presidential media chat at his residence in Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>According to Tinubu: \u201cMy friend used to have about five Rolls-Royces; the other day I saw him in his Honda; he said that is when you (Tinubu) out me, then I said I didn\u2019t put you there, he said because of fuel price, he could no longer manage a five-limo type of vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu had ended fuel subsidy regime leading to a hike in the price of fuel during his inauguration on May 29, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Under Tinubu, petrol prices soared from under N200 per litre to over N1,100 across Nigeria, while the naira\u2019s exchange rate plummeted from around \u20a6700\/$ to over \u20a61,600.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the president had urged Nigerians to be good managers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He narrated how the hike in the price of fuel, which is engendered by the removal of fuel subsidy, affected one of his friends.
