{"id":351207,"date":"2025-01-03T15:33:29","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T14:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=351207"},"modified":"2025-01-03T15:33:29","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T14:33:29","slug":"eight-injured-as-bus-crashes-into-median-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/03\/eight-injured-as-bus-crashes-into-median-in-lagos\/","title":{"rendered":"Eight injured as bus crashes into median in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The LASTMA said all victims have been rushed to <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>At least eight people suffered injuries after a commercial bus, commonly called a Molue, crashed into the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lagos%E2%80%93Abeokuta_Expressway#:~:text=The%20Lagos%E2%80%93Abeokuta%20Expressway%20is,Lagos%2C%20with%20other%20Nigerian%20states.\"><strong>Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway<\/strong><\/a> median.<\/p>\n<p>Adebayo Taofiq, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority spokesperson, released a statement on Friday, disclosing the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Taofiq explained that the driver swerved off the road to avoid hitting pedestrians at a bus stop, lost control, and crashed into the median.<\/p>\n<p>The crash resulted in the bus overturning, injuring passengers and the driver, who suffered severe injuries instantly.<\/p>\n<p>Taofiq stated, \u201cThe accident was triggered when the vehicle, registered as KTU 801 XM, lost control due to excessive speed, reportedly caused by driver impatience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an attempt to avoid colliding with another LT commercial bus and pedestrians waiting at the roadside, the driver veered sharply, resulting in the bus crashing into the expressway median and overturning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEight individuals, including five men and three women, sustained varying degrees of injuries. Among the injured was the bus driver, who suffered a fractured left arm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe injured victims were taken to Ile-Epo General Hospital thanks to the swift response of LASTMA personnel and officials from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLASTMA officers promptly arrived at the scene, executing a coordinated and efficient rescue operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll victims were immediately handed over to LASAMBUS medical personnel and transported to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention,\u201d Taofiq added.<\/p>\n<p>LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki sympathised with the injured through Taofiq and urged drivers to prioritise safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly speed limits set by the Lagos State Government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBakare-Oki also advised commercial and private vehicle operators to maintain their vehicles regularly, focusing on critical systems like brakes, to prevent accidents,\u201d Taofiq noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The LASTMA said all victims have been rushed to General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention.
