{"id":352470,"date":"2025-01-15T19:14:40","date_gmt":"2025-01-15T18:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=352470"},"modified":"2025-01-15T19:14:40","modified_gmt":"2025-01-15T18:14:40","slug":"gombe-university-asuu-rejects-acting-vc-appointment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/15\/gombe-university-asuu-rejects-acting-vc-appointment\/","title":{"rendered":"Gombe University ASUU Rejects Acting VC Appointment"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>ASUU-GSU urged Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to reconsider the council&#8217;s earlier recommendation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Gombe State University (GSU) has rejected the appointment of an acting Vice Chancellor by the institution\u2019s governing council.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists following a congress meeting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/06\/08\/court-summons-uniabuja-vc-over-governing-council-crisis\/\">ASUU<\/a>-GSU Chairman, Dr. Suleiman Salihu Jauro, condemned the appointment as illegal, asserting that it contravenes the university&#8217;s established laws and procedures.<\/p>\n<p>He revealed that in October, the governing council had submitted three qualified candidates to the Visitor for the selection of a substantive vice-chancellor.<\/p>\n<p>However, instead of finalizing the appointment, an acting VC was installed, a decision Dr. Jauro described as detrimental to the university&#8217;s integrity and operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe council&#8217;s action flagrantly violates the university laws. The appointment of an acting vice chancellor undermines the university and puts its activities at risk. It makes a mockery of the institution&#8217;s values,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Jauro also criticized the decision to re-advertise the position and restart the selection process, calling it a poor precedent for the university&#8217;s governance.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, he expressed concern over the feasibility of completing the newly advertised selection process, given that the governing council\u2019s tenure is set to expire on January 17.<\/p>\n<p>ASUU-GSU urged Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to reconsider the council&#8217;s earlier recommendation and select one of the three nominees already presented for the substantive vice chancellorship.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jauro called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to intervene and prevent further governance issues at the university.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ASUU-GSU urged Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to reconsider the council&#8217;s earlier recommendation The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Gombe State University (GSU) has rejected the appointment of an acting Vice Chancellor by the institution\u2019s governing council.
