{"id":35284,"date":"2021-05-19T04:12:58","date_gmt":"2021-05-19T03:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=35284"},"modified":"2021-05-19T08:56:19","modified_gmt":"2021-05-19T07:56:19","slug":"emir-of-kano-other-passengers-escape-death-as-abuja-bound-max-air-develops-engine-fault","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/19\/emir-of-kano-other-passengers-escape-death-as-abuja-bound-max-air-develops-engine-fault\/","title":{"rendered":"Emir of Kano, other passengers escape death as Abuja-bound Max Air develops engine fault"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero and other passengers escaped death on Tuesday as Kano-Abuja Max Air plane developed engine failure 10 minutes after take off from the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the Max Air aircraft, marked VM1645, scheduled to take off by 1.30 pm took off at 2:00 pm, 30 minutes behind departure time.<\/p>\n<p>Ten minutes after take-off, the aircraft, filled with passengers to the brim, reportedly began to \u201cswerve around the air\u201d until it made a detour for an emergency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/21\/body-of-stowaway-found-in-landing-gear-of-a-plane-that-arrived-in-amsterdam-from-nigeria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">landing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Nation, the incident, which caused fear among passengers was caused by an \u201cengine failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A palace source, who was also onboard the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/01\/nwando-phina-nigerians-hail-woman-who-is-one-of-first-pilots-to-land-plane-at-new-anambra-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plane<\/a>, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying \u201cwe smelt death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the passengers, Dr Samaila Suleiman, said it was \u201ca near-death incident,\u201d as he accused the airline of negligence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard a strange sound during the take-off but I waved it. I have been flying by aircraft many times but I have never heard such a sound during take-off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sound was strange but I dismissed any strange feeling of insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo radio announcement was even made until we saw ourselves back at the airport where we took off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a near-death experience. I and many other passengers were traumatised.
