{"id":353414,"date":"2025-01-23T14:56:20","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T13:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=353414"},"modified":"2025-01-23T14:56:20","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T13:56:20","slug":"oau-student-killing-appeal-court-upholds-adedoyins-death-sentence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/23\/oau-student-killing-appeal-court-upholds-adedoyins-death-sentence\/","title":{"rendered":"OAU student killing: Appeal court upholds Adedoyin\u2019s death sentence"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State has upheld the death sentence of Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a hotelier, in connection with the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master\u2019s student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.<\/p>\n<p>In its ruling on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the decision of the Osun State High Court which earlier convicted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/10\/29\/oau-student-killing-court-reserves-judgment-on-adedoyins-appeal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adedoyin<\/a> and sentenced him to death.<\/p>\n<p>Adegoke lodged at Adedoyin\u2019s Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Ile-Ife, Osun State upon his arrival from Abuja on November 5, 2021, to enable him to arrive early for his examination at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro, in the state, on November 6 and 7, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He later went missing and was found dead buried in a shallow grave following an investigation by the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin\u2019s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death,\u201d the appellate court\u2019s judgement read.<\/p>\n<p>It further noted that the \u201cOrder of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside.
