{"id":353999,"date":"2025-01-28T15:57:08","date_gmt":"2025-01-28T14:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=353999"},"modified":"2025-01-28T15:57:08","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T14:57:08","slug":"tanker-explosions-411-nigerians-died-scooping-fuel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/28\/tanker-explosions-411-nigerians-died-scooping-fuel\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanker explosions: 411 Nigerians died scooping fuel"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He stated that the corps recorded a seven per cent increase in fatalities as 5,421 people were killed in 2024, while 5,081 people were killed in 2023<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/12\/28\/frsc-warns-against-boarding-vehicles-with-compromised-safety-standards\/\">Federal Road Safety Corps<\/a>, FRSC, has revealed that 411 persons died scoping fuel in 2024 across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The corps also disclosed that about 21,580 traffic offenders were arrested between January and December 2024 across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.<\/p>\n<p>The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, made this known while addressing newsmen on the 2024 special patrol operations on Monday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mohammed, there is a reduction in the number of offenders in 2024 as against 29,220 within the same period in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>He explained, \u201cThis signifies a 26 per cent increase in compliance to traffic rules and regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FRSC Corps Marshal stated that the total number of offences committed stood at 25,942, representing 23.5 per cent reduction in traffic law violation compared to the data of the same period in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the analysis of the corps\u2019 annual performance indicated a drastic reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs).<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed further explained that from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024, a total of 9,570 RTCs were recorded nationwide, stressing that the figure is against 10,617 RTCs recorded in 2023, which signified a tremendous reduction of 10 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>He said that 31,154 people were injured in 2024 while 31,874 were injured in 2023 representing a two per cent decrease.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the corps recorded a seven per cent increase in fatalities as 5,421 people were killed in 2024, while 5,081 people were killed in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The FRSC Corps Marshal pointed out that out of the total fatalities that occurred in 2024, 411 deaths, representing 7.6 per cent of the total deaths, were not primarily caused by the crashes, but by a secondary factor which he described as the very monster the corps was fighting: scooping of fuel from fallen tankers.<\/p>\n<p>He said that without the casualties recorded from scooping fuel from crashed tankers, the Corps would have recorded 5,010 deaths in 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He stated that the corps recorded a seven per cent increase in fatalities as 5,421 people were killed in 2024, while 5,081 people were killed in 2023.
