{"id":354251,"date":"2025-01-30T15:54:21","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T14:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=354251"},"modified":"2025-01-30T15:54:21","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T14:54:21","slug":"igp-court-grants-sowore-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/30\/igp-court-grants-sowore-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP: Court grants Sowore bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Sowore is faces 17 counts of cybercrime charges brought by the Nigerian Police<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>Pleaded not guilty to charges<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been granted bail in the sum of \u20a610 million with one surety in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>According to the court, the surety must be a responsible individual with landed property of equal value and is required to submit the original documents of the property along with a passport photograph to the court registrar.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Musa Liman, who ruled on the bail application, also ordered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/29\/court-to-rule-on-sowores-bail-application-thursday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sowore<\/a> to deposit his international passport with the court.<\/p>\n<p>He was given 24 hours to meet the bail conditions or be remanded in police custody.<\/p>\n<p>Sowore is faces 17 counts of cybercrime charges brought by the Nigerian Police, but had pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The charges stem from an alleged tweet by Sowore in which he referred to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as the \u201cillegal IGP.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sowore is faces 17 counts of cybercrime charges brought by the Nigerian Police Pleaded not guilty to charges \u00a0 A former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been granted bail in the sum of \u20a610 million with one surety in like sum.
