{"id":355519,"date":"2025-02-12T00:05:55","date_gmt":"2025-02-11T23:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=355519"},"modified":"2025-02-11T23:46:05","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T22:46:05","slug":"tinubu-orders-fg-takeover-of-privately-owned-nok-varsity-in-kaduna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/12\/tinubu-orders-fg-takeover-of-privately-owned-nok-varsity-in-kaduna\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu orders FG takeover of privately-owned Nok varsity in Kaduna"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The institution has now been renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State, in fulfilment of a promise made to the people of Southern Kaduna.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Nok University, Kachia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/04\/kaduna-electric-confirms-layoff-of-450-workers-amid-strike\/\">Kaduna State<\/a>, will be converted to a federal university following the forfeiture of the institution to the government.<\/p>\n<p>The development followed President Bola Tinubu order that the federal government should assume control and management of the University.<\/p>\n<p>The President&#8217;s directive was announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the formal handover of the institution\u2019s property and assets to the Federal Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Following the President\u2019s directive \u2014 issued after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture of the privately-owned Nok University to the Federal Government \u2014 the institution has now been renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State, in fulfilment of a promise made to the people of Southern Kaduna.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed this development in a statement issued on Tuesday, titled \u2018Nok Varsity Now Federal University of Applied Sciences as President Tinubu Orders Immediate Takeover\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Shettima said Tuesday\u2019s event signified the administration\u2019s commitment to inclusivity and national development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great day for the country and for Kaduna State. The greater credit should go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for driving the process and making it the first item on the agenda of the Federal Executive Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeneral Martin Luther Agwai (retd) quoted Martin Luther King Jr. as saying, \u2018People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don\u2019t know each other; they don\u2019t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.\u2019 I dare to add another quote by the same Martin Luther King Jr.: \u2018We must either learn to live together as brothers, or we are going to die together as fools,\u2019\u201d Shettima said.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President also paid tribute to key figures instrumental in the transition process, including General Martin Luther Agwai (retd), Bishop Matthew Kukah, Justice Kumai Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to particularly appreciate my Lord, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, who has been unwavering in his commitment to fostering peace and progress in this region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe engagements we had with General Agwai, Justice Akaahs, and Senator Marshall were all geared towards making this a reality.
