{"id":356082,"date":"2025-02-17T14:51:16","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T13:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=356082"},"modified":"2025-02-17T14:51:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-17T13:51:16","slug":"court-restrains-fg-from-tampering-with-kanos-local-governments-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/17\/court-restrains-fg-from-tampering-with-kanos-local-governments-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Court restrains FG from tampering with Kano&#8217;s Local Governments&#8217; fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The ruling was delivered by Justice Musa Ibrahim Karaye of the State High Court on Monday after examining the evidence presented by the local government representatives<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Federal Government cannot make any move against or fiddle with funds belonging to the 44 local governments in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/14\/23-die-in-kano-trailer-accident\/\">Kano State<\/a>, a court has rule.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling was delivered by Justice Musa Ibrahim Karaye of the State High Court on Monday after examining the evidence presented by the local government representatives.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) had earlier approached the court to stop the disbursement of funds to the local governments, citing irregularities in the local government elections conducted by the state electoral commission in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the court had issued an interim order directing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, and all commercial banks not to tamper with the funds until the case was concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to DAILY POST after the ruling, Barrister Bashir Yusuf Tudun Wuzirchi, who represented the 44 local governments in the case, said: \u201cWe filed the case to protect Kano State from forces attempting to obstruct development by targeting the local governments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, by God\u2019s grace, the court ruled in our favor, granting all our requests. It also directed the federal government to refrain from tampering with these funds, which constitutionally belong to the local governments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to get a response from the legal representatives of the opposition party were unsuccessful.
