{"id":356198,"date":"2025-02-18T15:27:26","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T14:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=356198"},"modified":"2025-02-18T15:27:26","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T14:27:26","slug":"nigerias-inflation-falls-from-34-80-to-24-48-after-cpi-rebasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/18\/nigerias-inflation-falls-from-34-80-to-24-48-after-cpi-rebasing\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria\u2019s inflation falls from 34.80 to 24.48% after CPI rebasing"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>However, the latest inflation rate following the CPI rebasing has raised eyebrows among the citizenry with many saying the sudden fall in inflation rate is only on paper as such massive decline does not reflect in the cost of goods and services.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s inflationary trend has undergone a massive downward slide after the rebased Consumer Price Index.<\/p>\n<p>The nation&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/01\/22\/nigeria-not-a-hyperinflationary-economy-frc-reaffirms\/\">inflation<\/a> rate dropped to 24.48 percent in January 2024 from 34.80 percent in December last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Statistician General, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja at the launch of the rebased CPI report.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s inflation rose to 34.80 percent in January 2025 compared to 34.80 percent recorded in December last year.<\/p>\n<p>The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed its rebased Consumer Price Index for January released on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) \u2013 which measures the rate of change in prices of goods and commodities \u2013 has declined to 24.48 per cent year on year in January.<\/p>\n<p>Adeniran explained that urban inflation stood at 26.09 percent while rural inflation came to 22.15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, the report, food inflation declined to 26.08 percent in January, from 39.84 percent in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on the X account, NBS said, \u201cThe National Bureau of Statistics has released the rebased Consumer Price Index (CPI), reflecting an updated price reference period (base year) of 2024 and a weight reference period of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria\u2019s inflation rate for January 2024 stood at 24.48 percent year on year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe food inflation rate stood at 26.08 percent; the core inflation rate stood at 22.59 percent; the urban inflation rate stood at 26.09 percent; and the rural inflation rate stood at 22.15 percent \u201c.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the Central Bank of Nigeria Monetary Policy Committee would hold its first meeting in 2025 on February 19 and 20, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2024, MPC raised interest to 27.50 percent to bring down inflation.<\/p>\n<p>However, the latest inflation rate following the CPI rebasing has raised eyebrows among the citizenry with many saying the fall in inflation rate is only on paper as such massive decline does not reflect in the cost of goods and services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>However, the latest inflation rate following the CPI rebasing has raised eyebrows among the citizenry with many saying the sudden fall in inflation rate is only on paper as such massive decline does not reflect in the cost of goods and services.
