I commend the good people of Osun for maintaining a peaceful and orderly atmosphere at polling units across the state and encourage everyone to exercise their democratic right,\u201d Adeleke\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/aadeleke_01\/status\/1893199309035749692?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on X<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal government elections are the closest to the grassroots, and getting it right starts with electing the right leaders. Together, we will make Osun great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to urge everyone to come out and cast their votes. The election will be peaceful\u201d, the governor assured.<\/p>\n<p>The election process is taking place in 30 LGAs and across 323 wards throughout the entire state of Osun.<\/p>\n<p>There has been an ongoing dispute within Osun State concerning the local government election and the ruling delivered by the court of appeal.<\/p>\n<p>The election buildup has been overshadowed by violent confrontations among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leading to fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>The unrest in the state originated from the court of appeal\u2019s decision regarding the removal of APC council chairpersons and councillors from their positions.<\/p>\n<p>The PDP maintained that the court of appeal\u2019s ruling on February 10 in Akure, Ondo State, did not restore the dismissed chairpersons and councillors, but the APC disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/20\/osun-crisis-agf-asks-adeleke-not-to-proceed-with-lga-elections\/\"><strong>Lateef<\/strong><\/a> stated that the ousted LG chairpersons must return to office since the appeal court overturned their dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Adeleke remained firm that the local government election <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/21\/governor-adeleke-calls-fg-bluff-says-osun-local-council-polls-will-hold-saturday\/\"><strong>would proceed despite<\/strong><\/a> receiving counsel from the AGF against holding the election.<\/p>\n<p>Following this, the Osun state high court in Osogbo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/21\/breaking-osun-court-orders-electoral-body-security-agencies-to-conduct-lg-polls\/\"><strong>directed<\/strong><\/a> the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to organize and conduct Saturday\u2019s local government election.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Osun LP leader had said that the election should be postponed for one or two months to enable the electoral umpire to prepare adequately.
