{"id":357087,"date":"2025-02-26T07:33:07","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T06:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=357087"},"modified":"2025-02-26T07:33:07","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T06:33:07","slug":"i-wont-withdraw-suit-challenging-my-removal-ill-return-to-assembly-soon-obasa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/26\/i-wont-withdraw-suit-challenging-my-removal-ill-return-to-assembly-soon-obasa\/","title":{"rendered":"I won&#8217;t withdraw suit challenging my removal, I&#8217;ll return to assembly soon \u2013 Obasa"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>According to him, the court hearing fixed for February 28 will go ahead and they are preparing for it, regardless of the moves to resolve the Assembly crisis politically.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/15\/impeachment-impasse-obasa-sues-lagos-assembly-meranda-over-removal-as-speaker\/\">Mudashiru Obasa<\/a>, says he will forge ahead with his battle to reclaim his position in the State legislative arm of government.<\/p>\n<p>Obasa, who spoke through his legal team, disclosed that he has no plan to withdraw the suit filed to challenge his removal as Speaker.<\/p>\n<p>His lead counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), made the disclosure in an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the court hearing fixed for February 28 will go ahead and they are preparing for it, regardless of the moves to resolve the Assembly crisis politically.<\/p>\n<p>Fashanu also explained that Obasa does not plan to return to the Assembly until after he has obtained a judgment from the court.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fashanu, it could amount to an illegal step for Obasa to return to the House pending the decision of the case, which is already before a court.<\/p>\n<p>Obasa, who was removed by the majority of lawmakers on January 13, 2025, had earlier in February dragged the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, and the assembly to the state High Court in Ikeja, to seek redress.<\/p>\n<p>Obasa, who was removed as Speaker of the House, was away in the United States when he heard of the development.<\/p>\n<p>He had since rejected his removal, citing illegalities in the approach of the about 36 lawmakers who removed him.<\/p>\n<p>Upon his return on January 25, Obasa said he was still the Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy status in the house? I strongly believe I am still the Speaker until the right thing has been done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it,\u201d Obasa said while addressing newsmen on Saturday, January 25, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Since Obasa\u2019s removal and Meranda\u2019s emergence as the new Speaker, the Lagos Assembly has been enmeshed in a crisis, which has become a tough chestnut for the powerful Governors Advisory Council to crack.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to him, the court hearing fixed for February 28 will go ahead and they are preparing for it, regardless of the moves to resolve the Assembly crisis politically.
