{"id":357222,"date":"2025-02-27T13:54:57","date_gmt":"2025-02-27T12:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=357222"},"modified":"2025-02-27T13:54:57","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T12:54:57","slug":"current-billing-system-unfair-to-band-a-fg-to-review-electricity-tariffs-for-band-b-c-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/27\/current-billing-system-unfair-to-band-a-fg-to-review-electricity-tariffs-for-band-b-c-customers\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Current billing system unfair to Band A&#8221;: FG to review electricity tariffs for Band B, C customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He also disclosed that the regularisation move is part of effort to encourage investment in the power sector.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/26\/visa-on-arrival-policy-not-scrapped-fg\/\">Federal Government<\/a> says the currency electricity tariffs and pricing structure are unfair and unjust to band A customers.<\/p>\n<p>The government said plans are underway to address the huge differential in pricing by regularising and reviewing the current billing system.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made this known at the ongoing public presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and Nigeria Integrated Resource Plan on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He also disclosed that the regularisation move is part of effort to encourage investment in the power sector.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, customers on Band B enjoy 18 to 17 hours of electricity supply and pay N63 per kilowatt-hour.<\/p>\n<p>The consumers in Band A, with only two hours more of supply, are charged N209 per kilowatt-hour.<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu described this billing system as \u201cunfair\u201d and said there will be a more balanced and equitable pricing system.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said, \u201cWe will look at the tariff again. I am not saying that we\u2019re going to increase the tariff before I am misquoted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to look at it and see how we can improve upon our modest achievement of last year, not only to ensure that we grow the sector that we need but also to ensure that we can invest more in revamping all these dilapidated infrastructures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe gap between the Band A tariffs and Bands B, C, D, and E is just too wide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe it\u2019s not fair.
