He has been in the chamber since then.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He emerged as a speaker in June 2015 before his removal in January 2025.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Mudashiru Obasa, the removed speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has said that he has resumed office as the head of the legislative body.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists at the assembly complex on Thursday afternoon, Obasa maintained that his impeachment did not adhere to due process and was therefore invalid.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted that although impeachment is both constitutional and democratic, it must be executed strictly in line with established legal procedures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not democratic,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/18gNc5VNcV\/\"><strong>Obasa stated.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier today, Obasa reached the Lagos Assembly complex, accompanied by a team of security personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of the impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly assembled outside the complex, calling for his reinstatement.<\/p>\n<p>Obasa was ousted from his position on January 13 while he was overseas, leading to Mojisola Meranda being swiftly appointed as the new speaker.<\/p>\n<p>When he returned on January 25, he was greeted by a massive crowd of devoted supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, he has contested the legality of his impeachment, insisting he remains the legitimate speaker of the house.<\/p>\n<p>Speculation emerged that Meranda was experiencing heightened pressure to step down from her position as speaker.<\/p>\n<p>The security aides assigned to Meranda were withdrawn, adding to the growing uncertainty surrounding the assembly\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Obasa was first elected into the House in 2007.
