{"id":357347,"date":"2025-02-28T09:52:54","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T08:52:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=357347"},"modified":"2025-02-28T09:52:54","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T08:52:54","slug":"adeleke-establishes-panel-to-resolve-esa-oke-chieftaincy-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/28\/adeleke-establishes-panel-to-resolve-esa-oke-chieftaincy-dispute\/","title":{"rendered":"Adeleke establishes panel to resolve Esa-Oke chieftaincy dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The conflict erupted after the appointment of Prince Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Adeleke condemned property destruction and vowed to uncover the crisis\u2019s root causes during his visit to both communities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/24\/osun-council-crisis-dont-resume-office-yet-adeleke-tells-newly-elected-lg-chairs\/\"><strong>Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state<\/strong><\/a> has authorised the formation of an investigative panel to settle the ongoing chieftaincy dispute between Esa-Oke and Ido-Ayegunle communities.<\/p>\n<p>This information was shared in a statement issued on Friday by Olawale Rasheed, who serves as the spokesperson for Governor Adeleke.<\/p>\n<p>The statement reaffirmed the government\u2019s dedication to enforcing the panel\u2019s recommendations upon submission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Adeleke believes in justice and peace,\u201d Rasheed said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge all parties to cooperate fully with the panel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The decision follows violent clashes that erupted after the selection of a new traditional ruler.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Adeleke intervened after visiting both communities, denouncing the destruction of properties and promising to investigate the underlying causes of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to ensuring peace and justice. This panel will provide lasting solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The panel will be led by Ropo Oyewole, the Special Adviser to the Governor on House of Assembly Matters.<\/p>\n<p>Other panel members, as revealed in the statement, include Barrister Samuel Ojo, Special Adviser on Security Matters, and M.O. Oyedeji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Regional Integration.<\/p>\n<p>J. Amusan, Director of Staff Welfare at the Public Service Office, has also been appointed as a panel member.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMrs Adeola Ajekigbe, Deputy Director of Chieftaincy Affairs at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has been appointed as the panel\u2019s secretary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The committee is expected to leverage their expertise to resolve the prolonged dispute effectively.<\/p>\n<p>The terms of reference direct the panel to \u201cdetermine the remote and immediate causes of the crisis that began on January 30, 2025, following the State Executive Council\u2019s approval of Prince Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panel will also assess damages and recommend remediation measures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, the panel is tasked with proposing strategies to ensure lasting peace in the area and addressing any other matters deemed necessary for their investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir findings and recommendations must be submitted within two weeks of the panel\u2019s inauguration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dosu Babatunde, disclosed that the panel\u2019s inauguration is scheduled for March 4, 2025, at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osogbo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect the panel to carry out its duties diligently and fairly,\u201d Babatunde stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is determined to resolve this issue in the best interest of both communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the Owamiran of Esa-Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adediran, urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to fulfil his promise of setting up a panel of inquiry into the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists in Esa-Oke on Tuesday, Oba Adediran expressed worries over the panel\u2019s delayed inauguration, highlighting the community\u2019s desire to seek justice.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the town was eager to present its case after the violent clash with Ido-Ayegunle over the disputed land.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Chairman of the Esa-Oke Central Union, Bamigbeyi Aremu, voiced disappointment over the delay in implementing Governor Adeleke\u2019s crisis resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>He described the situation as still unstable, alleging that Ido-Ayegunle\u2019s leadership, led by Baale Timileyin Ajayi, continues harassing Esa-Oke farmers.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that the patience of the community was wearing thin and called on Governor Adeleke to take urgent action to prevent further conflict.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The conflict erupted after the appointment of Prince Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle.
