{"id":357778,"date":"2025-03-05T05:48:34","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T04:48:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=357778"},"modified":"2025-03-05T05:48:34","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T04:48:34","slug":"efcc-detains-former-akwa-ibom-governor-udom-emmanuel-over-n700bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/03\/05\/efcc-detains-former-akwa-ibom-governor-udom-emmanuel-over-n700bn-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC detains former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel over N700bn fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>It was gathered that Emmanuel was arrested after honouring an EFCC invitation on Tuesday to respond to the charges<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The the Corporate Headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has apprehended former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/02\/09\/akwa-ibom-boy-10-in-police-net-for-defiling-3-year-old\/\">Akwa Ibom<\/a> State Governor Udom Emmanuel over financial impropriety and grand larceny.<\/p>\n<p>He is being detained by the anti-graft agency over an allegation of N700 billion fraud levelled against him by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking, NCAT.<\/p>\n<p>NCAT accused Udom of money laundering, diversion of funds, and theft.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that Emmanuel was arrested after honouring an EFCC invitation on Tuesday to respond to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>He arrived at the EFCC office at around 12:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations by the commission have reportedly uncovered the withdrawal of N31 billion in cash from a single account named Office of the Governor. The money was allegedly withdrawn in cash progressively between 2019 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioner alleged that Emmanuel received N3 trillion from the Federation Account over eight years but left a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth N300 billion.
