{"id":35952,"date":"2021-05-20T14:44:09","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T13:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=35952"},"modified":"2021-05-20T14:56:03","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T13:56:03","slug":"nbc-invites-brekete-family-host-over-assault-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/20\/nbc-invites-brekete-family-host-over-assault-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"NBC invites Brekete Family host over assault controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has invited chief executive officer (CEO) of Human Rights Radio, Ahmed Isah over the assault of a woman.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by Ekanem Antia, the NBC deputy director, public affairs in an interview with NAN on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NBC, as a regulatory body for broadcast media, is concerned over the recent happening at the Human Rights Radio and deemed it fit to invite Isah,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Isah, popularly called \u2018ordinary president\u2019, hosts a long-running radio and television programme known as \u2018Brekete Family\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the activist was seen slapping a lady who was accused of setting her brother&#8217;s daughter on fire in the latest BBC Africa Eye documentary.<\/p>\n<p>Following the criticism that trailed the video, Isah subsequently apologised, saying his action was triggered by zeal and passion.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy director said the invitation would enable the commission to know the circumstances surrounding the situation that led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/18\/alleged-sexual-assault-police-not-aware-of-baba-ijeshas-bail-spokesperson\/\">assault<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a regulatory body for the broadcast media, the NBC cannot overlook this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBroadcasting should guarantee fairness for all citizens and a broadcaster should grant a right of reply to every citizen before passing judgment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is why the commission decided to send a letter of invitation to the CEO of Human Rights Radio and the anchor of the popular \u2018Brekete Family\u2019 radio programme, Ahmed Isah, to come to NBC and explain the circumstances surrounding his actions.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Antia asked broadcasters to recognise the power they have and exercise it with great responsibility and sensitivity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has invited chief executive officer (CEO) of Human Rights Radio, Ahmed Isah over the assault of a woman.
