{"id":360286,"date":"2025-07-06T11:58:28","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T10:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=360286"},"modified":"2025-07-06T11:58:28","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T10:58:28","slug":"lagos-road-accident-leaves-eight-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/06\/lagos-road-accident-leaves-eight-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos road accident leaves eight dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The mishap happened after a commercial 16-seater Mazda bus with registration number KJA 811 YF collided head-on with a DAF truck bearing the plate number T1 4636 LA<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>At least eight people have lost their lives in a ghastly road accident in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/06\/why-motorists-arent-allowed-to-use-completed-sections-of-coastal-highway-fg\/\">Lagos<\/a>, officials in the southwest state have said.<\/p>\n<p>The tragic auto crash happened in the early hours of Sunday at the Atura Bus Stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>The mishap happened after a commercial 16-seater Mazda bus with registration number KJA 811 YF collided head-on with a DAF truck bearing the plate number T1 4636 LA.<\/p>\n<p>The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the fatal accident.<\/p>\n<p>Bakare-Oki disclosed that all eight victims, including the driver and conductor of the bus, died instantly while eight other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the injured were quickly transported to the Badagry General Hospital by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, for urgent medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency response teams comprising personnel from LASTMA, FRSC, the Nigeria Police (Morogbo Division), and troops from the 244 Battalion, Ibereko Barracks, worked in concert to evacuate the scene and rescue survivors.<\/p>\n<p>According to preliminary investigations, the commercial bus was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control and veered into the path of the oncoming truck. The impact was described as catastrophic, offering little chance of survival for several passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Bakare-Oki, who visited the accident site, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and offered condolences to the families of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis painful event is a stark reminder of how precious and fragile life is. No one should begin a journey and not return. We mourn with the families and pray for strength in this time of grief,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also conveyed his best wishes for the full recovery of the injured passengers and issued a stern advisory to all commercial and articulated vehicle operators to adhere strictly to safety regulations, emphasising that excessive speeding and reckless driving continue to endanger lives on Nigerian roads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The mishap happened after a commercial 16-seater Mazda bus with registration number KJA 811 YF collided head-on with a DAF truck bearing the plate number T1 4636 LA.
