The All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its remarks on the state burial given to former President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Saturday, the national publicity secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, described the ADC\u2019s position as \u201cinsensitive\u201d and \u201cpolitically motivated.\u201d<\/p>\n
He accused the opposition party of using a national moment of grief to push its political agenda.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe party\u2019s criticism of the dignified state burial accorded the late President is as spooky as it is unconscionable,\u201d Morka said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ADC has once again shown itself to lack empathy and understanding of customary state practices.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morka argued that President Bola Tinubu acted rightly by honouring his predecessor and standing by the grieving Buhari family.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat would the ADC have had President Tinubu do?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cDeny the late President Buhari the honour of a befitting state burial? Withhold empathy and support for the bereaved former First Family?<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a party that can begrudge the dead, the ADC must surely disdain the living.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said ADC\u2019s claims that state tributes were politically exploitative were unfair and unbecoming during a period of mourning.<\/p>\n
Morka also highlighted Buhari\u2019s national service, noting that he led as both military Head of State and elected President.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Tinubu demonstrated compassion, patriotism, and leadership by overseeing and participating in the funeral rites of a man who gave so much to our dear nation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He urged Nigerians to reject what he called ADC\u2019s brand of \u201cdesperate opposition politics\u201d and focus on preserving national unity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
