{"id":361240,"date":"2025-07-24T12:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T11:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=361240"},"modified":"2025-07-24T12:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T11:38:07","slug":"2027-tinubu-shouldve-debunked-rumour-of-him-replacing-shettima-as-vp-hakeem-baba-ahmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/24\/2027-tinubu-shouldve-debunked-rumour-of-him-replacing-shettima-as-vp-hakeem-baba-ahmed\/","title":{"rendered":"2027: Tinubu should&#8217;ve debunked rumour of him replacing Shettima as VP \u2013 Hakeem Baba-Ahmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Baba-Ahmed believes that the denial of the speculation by Tinubu\u2019s aide has not done much to dispel or shut it down.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A former presidential adviser, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said the refusal of President Bola Tinubu to refute the growing public narrative that he plans to replace Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/13\/just-in-tinubu-mourns-buhari-orders-shettima-to-accompany-body-from-uk\/\">Kashim Shettima<\/a> in 2027 is worrisome.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that speculations had emerged months ago that the duo had fallen out and their relationship had strained following what was said to be Shettima&#8217;s dissatisfaction with his treatment by Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>There are also claims that there may be plans to drop Shettima from the ticket ahead of the next general election.<\/p>\n<p>The presidency has debunked the claim through aides, including presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga who described it in June as a non-issue.<\/p>\n<p>However, Baba-Ahmed believes that the denial of the speculation by Tinubu\u2019s aide has not done much to dispel or shut it down.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a live appearance on Channels Television\u2019s Politics Today on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed, said the president should personally dismissed the rumour should.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted that the refusal of Tinubu to publicly speak on the rumour and shut it down has lent some credence to it, adding that his silence is unsettling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would be very curious to find out what it is that makes all these stories about dropping him (Shettima). I think, somewhere along the line, to be honest, the President should have done something a long time ago,\u201d Baba-Ahmed, who left his position in the Tinubu administration about three months ago, said.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that if the rumour was indeed baseless, it wouldn\u2019t have taken much to put it to rest \u2014 just a clear and direct message from the President himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf all these stories about dropping the Vice President for somebody else, another Northern Vice President, maybe a Christian, maybe from somewhere else \u2014 have absolutely no iota of truth, it would have taken just one thing: the President directly and personally saying, \u2018Stop this nonsense. I have confidence in my Vice President, I work well with him, I am happy with him, and I want this nonsense about me dropping him, now or in the future, to stop.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>I will make a decision on who my running mate is in 2027 when we get there. In the meantime, we have work to do.\u2019 But he didn\u2019t say that. His people didn\u2019t say that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the lack of a personal response from the President leaves room for unnecessary speculation and division within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s worrying, let me just say it is worrying. If what I have said is exactly what the president thinks, he should have said it.
