{"id":361241,"date":"2025-07-24T12:21:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T11:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=361241"},"modified":"2025-07-24T12:24:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T11:24:20","slug":"aliyu-warns-pdp-against-embracing-nomadic-politicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/24\/aliyu-warns-pdp-against-embracing-nomadic-politicians\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Gov Aliyu warns PDP against embracing \u2018nomadic politicians\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Aliyu warns PDP to stop inviting defectors he calls \u201cnomadic politicians\u201d and blames them for deep-rooted party crises.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>He urges discipline, loyalty, and strict adherence to PDP\u2019s constitution requiring returnees to \u201cjoin the queue.\u201d<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Former governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, has cautioned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against encouraging defectors to return to the party.<\/p>\n<p>Aliyu described those who left the party as \u201cnomadic politicians,\u201d saying they were responsible for some of the challenges facing the PDP.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke at a PDP Consultative Conference held on Wednesday in Abuja, recalling that the party\u2019s convention in Port Harcourt was dominated by \u201cnomadic politicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ex-governor urged the party to learn from its past mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth the chairman and the chairman of governors\u2019 forum have been very diplomatic and saying \u2018come back, come back\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, you don\u2019t invite nomadic politicians back to your party. These were people with a history of nomadism,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Aliyu traced the party\u2019s crises, dating back to 2013 and 2014, to a lack of discipline and the prioritisation of personal interests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot keep on, knowing that the black sheep in the family keeps on destroying whatever we are building. And then you say, \u2018come back\u2019. In fact, the most shocking time period was 2019,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-governor called for loyal party members to be rewarded rather than those who constantly defect.<\/p>\n<p>He reminded members that the PDP constitution clearly stipulates that returnees must \u201cjoin the queue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aliyu further charged the party to pursue \u201creal, principled politics\u201d even if it does not immediately result in electoral success.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, to ensure compliance with the court ruling on the recall of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended senator representing Kogi Central.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the acting national chairman of PDP, Umar Damagum, said the party\u2019s doors would remain open to returnees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet it be said and known that our doors remain open to those who wish to return and it is my earnest prayers that in their return, they may rediscover themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter all, we are still the party that gave many their first political home,\u201d Damagum said.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged that the PDP had suffered internal fractures since 2013 but maintained that it remained the only platform capable of returning power to the people.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of PDP Governors\u2019 Forum and Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, cautioned defectors against \u201cde-marketing\u201d the party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot be in PDP and be in coalition with another party,\u201d Mohammed warned.<\/p>\n<p>He said some defectors had caused the party\u2019s loss in 2015 but were still accommodated.<\/p>\n<p>A former senate president, Bukola Saraki, urged party members not to abandon the PDP due to anger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, mistakes had been made in the past, but the question still remains \u2014 should we abandon this party?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI stand here as somebody who left this party with anger. Anger does not solve problems in leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLots of people are leaving the party now, and leaving with anger.
