{"id":361662,"date":"2025-07-31T13:59:02","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T12:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=361662"},"modified":"2025-07-31T13:59:02","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T12:59:02","slug":"n500k-debts-abuja-man-kills-self-over-gambling-addiction-pens-suicide-note-to-creditors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/31\/n500k-debts-abuja-man-kills-self-over-gambling-addiction-pens-suicide-note-to-creditors\/","title":{"rendered":"N500k debts: Abuja man kills self over gambling addiction, pens suicide note to creditors"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>His lifeless body was reportedly found dangling from the rope tied to a ceiling fan he used to commit suicide<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/18\/rights-group-asks-efcc-to-enforce-court-orders-on-abuja-widows-seized-properties\/\">Abuja<\/a>, one Stephen Chidubem has taken his own life after losing a substantial amount of money to gambling and incurring an enormous debt he could not repay<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was said to have hanged himself at his residence on Abba Street, behind the Anglican Church in Saburi 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n<p>His lifeless body was reportedly found dangling from the rope tied to a ceiling fan he used to commit suicide.<\/p>\n<p>A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the tragic incident in a post on his X handle on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, emergency responders arrived at the scene and evacuated the body to Kubwa General Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>He was confirmed dead by a medical doctor, and the corpse was subsequently deposited at the hospital\u2019s mortuary for autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>Makama said a suicide note recovered at the scene pointed to gambling addiction as the cause of the tragic act.<\/p>\n<p>In the note, Chidubem apologised to those he owed and to those he believed were affected by his financial troubles.<\/p>\n<p>The note read in part: \u201cSorry to everyone who cared, I can\u2019t continue putting people in trouble because of my gambling addiction. Please forgive me Elvis, Paul, and all I\u2019m owing. And you, Bishop Andy Ero, give the balance of \u20a6507,500 to Elvis or Paul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the deceased had been struggling with a severe gambling addiction that plunged him
