{"id":361972,"date":"2025-08-06T17:15:42","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T16:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=361972"},"modified":"2025-08-06T17:15:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T16:15:42","slug":"ncaa-suspends-valuejet-pilots-over-safety-violation-at-abuja-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/06\/ncaa-suspends-valuejet-pilots-over-safety-violation-at-abuja-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"NCAA suspends ValueJet pilots over safety violation at Abuja airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The NCAA said ValueJet pilot initiated departure without mandatory clearance, endangering ground staff and other airport users.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The NCAA described the pilots\u2019 actions as a violation of civil aviation regulations and international safety standards.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended two pilots attached to ValueJet over a safety breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The incident, which occurred at the domestic terminal, involved a ValueJet flight that allegedly violated key aviation safety procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Director of public affairs and consumer protection at the NCAA, Mr Michael Achimugu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Achimugu said the Authority received reports of a serious breach of aviation safety protocols linked to the ValueJet flight on August 5.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the pilot initiated departure procedures without securing the mandatory pre-departure clearance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis reckless action endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Achimugu noted that the NCAA viewed the incident with utmost seriousness, considering the potential risks involved.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cConsequently, the Authority has taken immediate enforcement action by suspending the licences of the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First officer Ivan Oloba with immediate effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Achimugu stated that the suspension would remain in force until a comprehensive investigation into the matter is concluded.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised the Authority\u2019s commitment to upholding safety protocols and ensuring compliance across the aviation sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NCAA remains steadfast in its mandate to enforce adherence to safety procedures to protect all stakeholders within the aviation industry,\u201d Achimugu said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NCAA said ValueJet pilot initiated departure without mandatory clearance, endangering ground staff and other airport users.
