{"id":362011,"date":"2025-08-07T09:57:31","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T08:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362011"},"modified":"2025-08-07T09:57:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T08:57:31","slug":"police-recover-explosives-arms-from-kaduna-scrap-depot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/07\/police-recover-explosives-arms-from-kaduna-scrap-depot\/","title":{"rendered":"Police recover explosives, arms from Kaduna scrap depot"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>A revolver loaded with six rounds, cartridges and live ammunition were recovered from the scene.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The police commissioner ordered the scrap yard sealed off pending further investigation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Kaduna State Police Command has said that its operatives recovered explosive materials and ammunition from a scrap facility in the state capital.<\/p>\n<p>Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the command, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the discovery followed intelligence received regarding suspicious objects found at a waste collection site in the Kudandan Industrial Area, Kaduna South Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Friday, acting on credible intelligence received, the command was alerted to the presence of suspicious items believed to be unexploded ordnances (UXOs) at a scavenger\u2019s company located around the Kudandan Industrial Area in Kaduna South Local Government Area,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the hazardous items were said to have been mixed with refuse brought into Kaduna from Borno State.<\/p>\n<p>He said officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were deployed to the scene under the supervision of the unit\u2019s commander.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a thorough assessment, the items were confirmed to be unexploded military-grade ordnance bombs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson stated that the devices were successfully removed and transferred to a safe location, where they would be destroyed following laid-down safety standards.<\/p>\n<p>He said other items recovered included a locally made revolver loaded with six bullets, 15 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, three live cartridges and various other ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, the commissioner of police in Kaduna, Muhammad Rabiu, ordered that the premises be sealed off to allow the bomb squad conduct a full sweep of the area.<\/p>\n<p>He assured residents that the command remained committed to securing the state and called on the public to provide useful intelligence that could help prevent security threats.<\/p>\n<p>Rabiu also issued a warning to scavenger firms, urging them not to accept items originating from regions experiencing conflict.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he instructed divisional police officers and area commanders to enforce the directive and arrest violators without delay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A revolver loaded with six rounds, cartridges and live ammunition were recovered from the scene.
