{"id":362209,"date":"2025-08-11T18:23:54","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T17:23:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362209"},"modified":"2025-08-11T18:28:58","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T17:28:58","slug":"airline-operators-ban-unruly-passenger-for-life-over-ibom-air-crew-assault","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/11\/airline-operators-ban-unruly-passenger-for-life-over-ibom-air-crew-assault\/","title":{"rendered":"Airline Operators place passenger on \u2018no-fly\u2019 list for unruly behaviour over Ibom Air crew assault"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The lifetime ban applies across all routes operated by AON member airlines.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The AON also urged FAAN to review airport safety protocols to prevent future lapses.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has blacklisted Comfort Emmanson for life following an unruly incident aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>The offence, described as &#8220;one of the most serious cases of disruptive behaviour&#8221; this year, happened on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Ibom Air reported that Emmanson repeatedly disobeyed safety directives on mobile phone usage and physically attacked crew members.<\/p>\n<p>She also reportedly tried to use a fire extinguisher against the flight staff.<\/p>\n<p>According to the airline, she refused to switch off her phone until the pilot intervened, after which a fellow passenger turned it off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/\"><strong>WITHIN NIGERIA<\/strong><\/a> also reported that Ibom Air has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/11\/ibom-air-bans-passenger-who-assaulted-flight-crew-for-life\/\"><strong>imposed<\/strong><\/a> a travel ban on her.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Monday, AON\u2019s spokesperson Obiora Okonkwo said the no-fly order is effective immediately and applies to all domestic and international flights operated by member airlines.<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo described the passenger\u2019s actions as a \u201csustained, violent attack\u201d that endangered crew, passengers, and the aircraft\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the lifetime ban covers travel on any AON member airline, both within Nigeria and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The association cited other recent unruly passenger incidents, including musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal on ValueJet and Senator Adams Oshiomhole on Air Peace.<\/p>\n<p>AON commended Ibom Air for its prompt and professional response to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand with Ibom Air and all member airlines to enforce a zero-tolerance policy on unruly behaviour,\u201d Okonkwo said.<\/p>\n<p>He urged passengers to follow proper channels when raising complaints.<\/p>\n<p>The group also criticised the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and its Aviation Security unit, calling for urgent improvements to airport security measures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The lifetime ban applies across all routes operated by AON member airlines.
