{"id":362222,"date":"2025-08-11T19:38:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T18:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362222"},"modified":"2025-08-11T19:38:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T18:38:08","slug":"breaking-tambuwal-detained-by-efcc-over-alleged-n189bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/11\/breaking-tambuwal-detained-by-efcc-over-alleged-n189bn-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Tambuwal detained by EFCC over alleged N189bn fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The EFCC is probing an unauthorised N189 billion withdrawals linked to Aminu Tambuwal\u2019s tenure as governor.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Investigation centres on suspected violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention &amp; Prohibition) Act, 2022.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals totalling N189 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The withdrawals allegedly breach the Money Laundering (Prevention &amp; Prohibition) Act, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Tambuwal arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday for questioning by investigators.<\/p>\n<p>A senior EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the former governor is being probed over suspicious transactions during his tenure, involving unauthorised withdrawals of public funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe withdrawals are in clear violation of the Money Laundering Act,\u201d the source said, adding that the investigation has been ongoing for months.<\/p>\n<p>According to Vanguard, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined to comment until the interrogation is complete.<\/p>\n<p>Tambuwal is a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having served as governor from 2015 to 2023 and previously as Speaker of the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Further information is expected as the investigation progresses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The EFCC is probing an unauthorised N189 billion withdrawals linked to Aminu Tambuwal\u2019s tenure as governor.
