{"id":362270,"date":"2025-08-12T19:45:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T18:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362270"},"modified":"2025-08-12T19:45:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T18:45:10","slug":"tinubu-appoints-wike-ally-orbih-to-alex-ekwueme-university-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/12\/tinubu-appoints-wike-ally-orbih-to-alex-ekwueme-university-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu appoints Wike ally, Orbih, to Alex Ekwueme University council"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Orbih\u2019s appointment to Alex Ekwueme University council follows the death of an existing member, according to the presidency\u2019s announcement.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Akinfeleye, an experienced communications scholar, takes over the OAU governing council seat vacated by Owokoniran.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chisom Dan Orbih, an ally of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.<\/p>\n<p>Orbih\u2019s appointment follows the death of a council member.<\/p>\n<p>The president also named Ralph Akinfeleye, a communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.<\/p>\n<p>Akinfeleye is a former head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos and chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography\/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.<\/p>\n<p>He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University of Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Akinfeleye replaces Wahab Owokoniran, who is now pro-chancellor and chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.<\/p>\n<p>He appointed Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as the registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as the bursar, and Shehu Aminu Liman as the librarian.<\/p>\n<p>Yakasai, a retired colonel, is the provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano.<\/p>\n<p>He chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and is a member of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.<\/p>\n<p>The vice-chancellor obtained his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.<\/p>\n<p>He later received a scholarship from the European Economic Commission for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Yakasai earned membership and a fellowship at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>He also obtained a master\u2019s degree in medical education from the University of Winchester.<\/p>\n<p>The academic later travelled to the United States, where he earned the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons and the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons.<\/p>\n<p>Yakasai previously served as the director-general of the Hospitals Management Board, Kano State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Orbih\u2019s appointment to Alex Ekwueme University council follows the death of an existing member, according to the presidency\u2019s announcement.
