{"id":362600,"date":"2025-08-16T17:33:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T16:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362600"},"modified":"2025-08-16T17:33:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T16:33:12","slug":"your-tenure-over-continued-portrayal-of-yourself-as-lp-chair-illegal-court-tells-abure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/16\/your-tenure-over-continued-portrayal-of-yourself-as-lp-chair-illegal-court-tells-abure\/","title":{"rendered":"Your tenure over, continued portrayal of yourself as LP chair illegal, court tells Abure"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong> The development followed the Federal High Court dismissal of Julius Abure\u2019s case against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The crisis rocking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/07\/30\/labour-party-reacts-to-petition-claiming-it-plans-to-overthrow-tinubus-govt\/\">Labour Party<\/a> may have come to an end as a fresh court ruling appears to have settled the party&#8217;s leadership impasse.<\/p>\n<p>The development followed the Federal High Court dismissal of Julius Abure\u2019s case against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>The court in its ruling on Friday stated that Abure is no longer the party\u2019s National Chairman, affirming the earlier judgment of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>In Suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/1523\/2025, the court struck out Abure\u2019s suit for want of jurisdiction, echoing the apex Court\u2019s April 4, 2025 ruling (Appeal No. SC\/CV\/56\/2025), which annulled all prior recognitions of his leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the judgment, Interim National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, PhD, said the decision \u201cremoves every lingering doubt\u201d about Abure\u2019s status and leadership tussle in the party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is another unambiguous affirmation of the rule of law and the Supreme Court\u2019s binding pronouncements,\u201d Usman declared. \u201cThe chapter is closed \u2014 we must put distractions behind us and rebuild the Labour Party into the disciplined, people-centred movement Nigerians deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;INEC\u2019s counter-affidavit in the case left no room for ambiguity. The commission swore under oath that Abure\u2019s tenure, along with that of the National Executive Committee, expired in June 2024, and that the controversial March 27, 2024 \u201cNnewi National Convention\u201d was never monitored nor recognised because it violated the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, INEC guidelines, and the LP constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Usman praised INEC\u2019s \u201cclarity, courage, and institutional integrity\u201d in stating the facts plainly and urged all LP members to \u201crespect the supremacy of the Constitution and the authority of the courts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With bye-elections looming and the 2027 general elections in view, the ruling may finally end the leadership tussle that has plagued the party for over a year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The development followed the Federal High Court dismissal of Julius Abure\u2019s case against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
