{"id":362675,"date":"2025-08-17T19:01:59","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T18:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362675"},"modified":"2025-08-17T19:01:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T18:01:59","slug":"2027-adebayo-tackles-inec-over-failure-to-sanction-campaign-defaulters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/17\/2027-adebayo-tackles-inec-over-failure-to-sanction-campaign-defaulters\/","title":{"rendered":"2027: Adebayo tackles INEC over failure to sanction campaign defaulters"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>Prince Adewole Adebayo accused INEC of allowing APC to flout electoral laws by campaigning before the required 150-day period<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>He disagreed with Okonjo-Iweala&#8217;s economic stability praise, comparing Tinubu&#8217;s policies to a doctor reducing patient deaths but not curing illness<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has berated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for refusing to wield the heavy stick against political parties flouting the electoral rules as respects campaign.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/09\/14\/brace-up-pump-price-will-shoot-up-again-adebayo-tells-nigerians\/\">Adebayo<\/a> expressed his anger with the development during an appearance on Arise TV&#8217;s PrimeTime programme.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the law requires no political party to begin any type of electoral campaign until 150 days before the election, whether it is a by-election, off-cycle election, or general election, but lamented that INEC had turned a blind eye to this provision while the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to flout it with impunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nowhere you go and you don\u2019t see the picture of President Bola Tinubu and some members of his family already dancing and waltzing ahead of 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, if you are not to be caught panting as an opposition, you would give an answer. If the government was governing, our policies would be in opposition against their governing methods.<\/p>\n<p>But, since they are campaigning, the opposition has to be in a campaign format.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key issue is that if we want to go back to regular order, the president and the APC have to go back to regular order. Once they go back to regular order, remove all those obnoxious billboards all over the place, we will now listen to them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, he also disagreed with the Director General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who recently commended President Tinubu for stabilising Nigeria\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that Dr Okonjo-Iweala\u2019s statement is only correct in the paradigm of neoliberal economics, as Nigerians only use the feedback from their stomach, energy costs, rent and cost of education, among others to determine the nature of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>He likened the much touted economic stability of the ruling APC to a doctor who mistreated 1,000 patients and when started dropping dead in dozens, managed to reduce the number of those who are dropping dead to one a week.<br \/>\nSo, you can say you stabilize the situation; it doesn\u2019t mean that the situation is correct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like a pilot who ran into a terrible weather, flew above the level given to him, faced the wrong direction, and now flailing in the storm; has now managed to balance the aircraft. He still has to find his bearing. He still has to find his altitude. He still has to travel towards the original destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, what Tinubu has managed to do, is that instead of burning so much money to defend the Naira, instead of struggling with inflation number that doesn\u2019t make their own budgeting to make any sense to themselves, what he\u2019s managed to do is to cleverly cover how much money the CBN is using to defend the Naira, to make it look like we can\u2019t see it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd because politicians are talking about faction, this and that, nobody\u2019s paying attention to the fact that the CBN is burning our money, which would have been used to provide employment, infrastructure and all of that, to defend the Naira and keep it at a level,\u201d he
