{"id":362734,"date":"2025-08-18T09:22:30","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T08:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=362734"},"modified":"2025-08-18T09:22:30","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T08:22:30","slug":"no-president-has-prioritised-road-infrastructure-like-tinubu-goronyo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2025\/08\/18\/no-president-has-prioritised-road-infrastructure-like-tinubu-goronyo\/","title":{"rendered":"No president has prioritised road infrastructure like Tinubu \u2013 Goronyo"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>Works Minister Bello Goronyo claims President Tinubu has given unprecedented attention to infrastructure, ordering immediate rehabilitation of major bridges<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>Government targets critical projects including Lagos-Sokoto road, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and Trans-Saharan corridor with interventions across all 36 states<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to Minister of State for Works Bello <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/19\/update-43-people-perished-in-goronyo-bandits-attack-gov-tambuwal-photos\/\">Goronyo,<\/a> has prioritized road infrastructure more than any other president in the last 40 years.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a stakeholders&#8217; meeting in Abuja with the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Goronyo stated that the president has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of major bridges in poor condition across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, bridges such as the Wukari-Jalingo Bridge, Makwa Bridge, Gurara Bridge, Third Mainland Bridge, and Carter Bridge are in need of urgent repairs. He explained that the initiative aims to strengthen economic corridors and facilitate movement across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe secret behind this is the unwavering commitment and support of Mr. President. In his Renewed Hope Agenda, infrastructure ranks as priority number five, serving as a key enabler of growth and development. I can say without mincing words that there has never been a president in the last four decades who has given this much attention to infrastructure,\u201d Goronyo said.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the leadership of the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, for \u201cbringing his wealth of engineering experience to bear\u201d in delivering projects, and praised FERMA\u2019s efforts to maintain more than 36,000 kilometres of federal roads despite limited funding.<\/p>\n<p>The minister listed critical legacy projects under Tinubu\u2019s administration, including the Lagos\u2013Sokoto road, Lagos\u2013Badagry Expressway, Lagos\u2013Calabar Coastal Highway, Ebonyi\u2013Nasarawa\u2013Abuja route, and the Trans-Saharan corridor from Akwanga\u2013Jos\u2013Bauchi\u2013Gombe.<\/p>\n<p>He added that all 36 states have benefited from road interventions, with ongoing works in strategic corridors such as Abuja\u2013Lokoja, Abuja\u2013Kaduna\u2013Kano, and Sokoto\u2013Zaria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a president who cares for every region. He is the people\u2019s president, present for all. With his support, we are confident of delivering prosperity and the much-needed development of our dear nation,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>FERMA\u2019s Managing Director, Chukwuemeka Agbasi, emphasized the importance of the stakeholders\u2019 meeting, describing it as a platform to strengthen collaboration with key players in the transport and petroleum sectors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working around the clock to ensure our federal highways remain in good condition. Despite the lean budget, we are adopting innovative maintenance strategies to cover more roads and respond quickly to emergencies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The National President of NARTO, Yusuf Othman, described the meeting as timely, stressing that better roads would improve safety, reduce vehicle operating costs, and enhance the efficiency of goods transportation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur members ply these roads daily, and we know first-hand the impact bad roads have on the economy. This collaboration with the Works Ministry and FERMA gives us confidence that change is coming,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>National Chairman of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, pledged the association\u2019s support for the government\u2019s road initiatives, particularly in ensuring the smooth movement of petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood roads mean faster and safer delivery of fuel across the country.
